I just took Damian to get a haircut. I figured I probably ought to get a trim while I was there. The lady asked me if she could trim my beard a little. I thought she meant she would leave the approximate length and volume and just even things up a bit. Nope. She trimmed the fuck out of it. There's practically nothing there anymore. Uncertain 'cause though it's not what I wanted to happen, I really look a hell of a lot better.

I trimmed my beard today too, Jim. It's ok. These things grow back.

Yeah, I've been trimming mine down as well, and will probably do away with it entirely one of these days. I just don't want to be stuck in the dude-with-a-beard ghetto, you know?

I always think of Kirsten's uncle John, who looks like Santa Claus and is afraid that no one will recognize him anymore if he does away with his face-mop. I mean, you can't let beard-fear rule your life, but still!

I've been contemplating whacking mine back down to just the chin, but I'm not sure whether it's too early or not.
Also, I just got home and I'm tired and kind of bored, but I'm not sure what to do. I don't feel like working or doing anything else that requires a whole lot of effort, but I don't feel like watching TV either. It's too late in the day for a nap. Bleh.

It turns out my cousin Andi gets released in a few weeks. She was the first the member of my family to know I was gay, and the only one to respond in a remotely positive way (she talked her bf into blowing me). We've not been in much contact over the last fifteen years, and what conversations we've had have been pretty stupid. But on one hand she's one of those people, those crazy relatives that introduce you to porn and ketamine and on the other she used to beat and rob old people.

So apparently on Saturday afternoon some dude strolled into a house a few blocks from where I live and murdered a kid and the housekeeper. So I guess now we're going to start locking our doors more regularly. It's all very much a bummer.

That's really fucked up.
Of course, at one point, a methed out lady ran her car into our house. Also, at another point, I watched the cops drag away my neighbor's cracked up boyfriend who ended up in an extended coma after ODing in their car.
It's not a bad neighborhood! I swear!

I'm applying to volunteer for a few months at this urban farm co-op:
www.growingpower.org
which is based in Milwaukee but also has a farm in Chicago. I want to start a co-op like this in Orlando Florida in the near future so I think it'd be a good learning experience because I'm incredibly naive.
I google mapped the address of both places and it looks like the actual farm in Milwaukee is in a suburb by an army base but the farm in Chicago is right in an urban center which would be better because I won't have a car if I do this. Anyhow I am uncertain about which place to apply for, since they want you to specify where you want to work.
Some of you people live in Chicago and Milwaukee, so what's up! Also I don't know if this place is shady or anything like greencorps kinda was. It looks pretty legit to me but I don't know! thanks!

oh yeah! I forgot you lived there and frequented dandelion and everything! Have you been to ethos? I've only been once and it's tasty but too expensive.
I'm moving back to Orlando from FM this summer! I'm pumped. But yes, it has kind of become my life goal over the past few years even though I've never grown any vegetables and don't know anything about starting a non-profit or any sort of business whatsoever. Come June you may start to see fliers around town asking for people who are interested in growing their own food to start some sort of club or something. Do you think a lot of people would be into something like that?
Yeah blucas, I was also confused about that. In the arial photographs in google you can't see anything that looks like a rooftop garden or farm.

Actually, I moved to Chicago 6 months ago but I'm moving back to Orlando in like 2 weeks. I haven't been to Ethos but I am really excited to try it. I think if you took that flier to Ethos, Dandelion, and random places in Orlando, people would be into it. Good luck with it dude!

This is the place I've heard of. That's not in the suburbs, it's on the northside, which is the ghetto (for what it's worth). And you can easily get there by bus if you are so inclined. I recommend you come to Milwaukee.

yay! I have a friend who is from Oshkosh/Appleton who just moved back a month or two ago and is going to school in Milwaukee so I was already leaning towards there. I was confused by the google maps images. Now I just have to get accepted.
So the transit system is pretty good?

It's, er,
decent
. It used to be great; in fact, I'm pretty sure a few years ago it was rated one of the best transit systems in the country. However, due to increasing budget cutbacks, etc. it ain't what it used to be. Will get you where you need to go, though, and generally on time.

that's all I need. Transit systems in Florida are notoriously horrible. I have a few friends who use them but it usually takes a few hours to get somewhere that is 20 minutes away... and everything is 20 minutes away from everything else down here.

So I'm in the middle of giving a midterm, and I just realized only about 2/3 of my students are here. What the fuck? This is worth something like 30% of their grade, what's going on?
also annoyance: now I'm going to have to deal with a barrage of explanations, excuses, etc. I'm a pretty forgiving guy and will probably allow retakes for anyone who comes up with a halfway decent one, but it's all extra headacahe for me. Gah.
