Hmm, right. In that case, I probably would try to look into suspending the care job over the summer and doing the internship instead. Or, you know, just give it a few days thought and see what sounds like the best option to you after that.

Also, that's wicked awesome!

I've got a couple of weeks to decide which way I'm going to go, so, yeah no need for me to rush into anything one way or another.

And, yes, wicked awesome is right.

Good god, senioritus. Fuck. Seriously!

The three hours I set aside to finish my thesis today became me sitting in the library going "Well maybe I can just write three pages" to "Well maybe if I just read two articles and write one page" to "Let's just finish this article and finish this section" to "I think I'll do my German homework and go to the bar"

So here I am

Which is to say, there's about a 90% we're moving to NYC, assuming D gets into this post-bac program at Columbia

one of them is somewhere writing about why 70's porn is all about how Nixon wanted to blow his cabinet, another is somewhere over the atlantic, there is one who's bitching about his job, and another about her love life. A fifth has kinda ran away from us, and a sixth is playing with bankers and stake knives.

Plus a ten week internship would certainly put the kebosh on both filmaking and Istanbul, although the former is pretty fifty/fifty at the moment. I should bitch about these options, because they're all pretty good but I hate having to make choices.

Dude - what's the uncertainty? From the way you describe the employment situation for care workers in Nottingham, there's no way they wouldn't rehire you gladly after the summer. And, if they're dumb enough to let you go, there's no way you couldn't find another job just as easily. The film-making was always just a backup in case you couldn't get an internship, right? And, band plans permitting, I'm probably going camping with my parents in the West Country in August so I can always come up and see you then - and we can go to Istanbul for Xmas or something because apparently they don't celebrate it at all, which is convenient because neither does Paul. This is a no-brainer - are you serious?

I never thought you would break what we have for a piece of ass, man.

What does your girlfriend want to be when she grows up?  Also what is a post bac program for anyway.  I looked it up on wikipedia last night (never heard of it before, probably because the GED is the gold standard of educational achievement in my family) and it gave me nothing.

I'm not genuinely interested in your life or anything though, I'm just trying to work up some new material for ridiculing you in private.

I understand. I pump heather continually for lapses in your revolutionary facade. I know all about your Ikea dalliances, traitor.

I'd never heard of a post-baccalaureate program before this, either. Basically it's a way for people to continue their education after undergrad without fully matriculating. You take undergraduate and graduate courses (I'm not really sure how the scheduling works, specifically) and though you're not actually earning credits, you get a transcript and, consequently, letters of recommendation. Mostly people do it to either prepare for graduate school or just to take courses that interest them in their spare time without committing to a full graduate studies experience. D is doing it because she wants to go for her MFA, but she was an anthropology major with a minor in linguistics, so she wants to shore up her background vis-a-vis English survey courses and get some good recommendations from people in the field. Also I think she wants to be able to say "I'm taking classes at Columbia." She definitely has some inadequacy issues having graduated from a state school. With good reason, I suppose.
So it's not like you're actually applying to Columbia; it's more like if you have decent undergrad transcripts and can pay their outrageous fees, they'll take you on. She doesn't have a bunch of crippling debt from her undergrad like I do, so she's got plenty of funding options. I guess there are a number of universities around the country with programs like these, but Columbia's is the foremost and best-developed.

Simply sizing up targets, my good man.  I mean, Ikeas.  I size up the Targets on Thursdays.

Anyway, fuck that whole public school inferiority complex.  I'm just as depressed by the insipid level of discourse here as I was at a state school (and not just any state school, but one renowned for sub-mediocrity), the main difference being that there are fewer interesting people (alcoholics) here.

Haha I just thought of this thing Matt Yglesias about there being no inherent economic advantage to 4 years of an Ivy league education
