I've successfully completed my first week of work and my first week of university and both are pretty cool so far.

That's great news GCR. Glad to see things are going well. Runour had it you were coming up here at some point. That true?
I have the house to myself tonight. It's really nice.

I FINALLY GOT A JOB!!!  Yes, that's right, I finally got a job.  It's not much, part time at Charlotte Russe, but christ, at least it's something.  I'm still looking for either another part time job or a full time job, but I start work on Sunday, and I couldn't be happier.
Also, hi, it's nice to see you guys again!

We'll see what happens next week, but for now it seems that the gray cloud that has been floating above my head for the past month has moved on. I'm as surprised as you are.

Yeah it's pretty nice here today. About 66. But it'll be below freezing again by the end of the week.

Yeah dude where you been?
I am severly lacking in internet access these days.  It sucks, but I actually got a second job today, working at the Starbbucks in the new Barnes & Noble.  Again, not an exciting job, but I have two jobs now!  Hooray!  Hopefully I can get everything back in order soon.
Also, the weather has been fucking gorgeous the past few days.  We went and hiked around at the Indian Mounds outside of town a couple days ago, I spent most of yesterday sitting on the porch reading, and I cannot bring myself to close the windows.

I just got word that I'm being made Technical Director for the radio show that I was just editing.  I'll still be editing, but I'll also be recording the thing now.

Tomorrow I'll be learning how to record an ISDN interview.  Two of them, actually.

I'm slightly nervous, but I'm happy about the title bump and the whatnot.  This is the show that's gonna be playing in Berlin.

We had a department meeting this morning, and after discussing various meeting reports and the like, there's always a round where people just say a couple of sentences about their research and teaching activities since the last meeting. Unlike the last time, which was my first meeting of this sort and where all I could say was "I just started working on my PhD", I could actually say a bit about what I'd been doing. The department chair expressed his admiration, and my supervisor chimed in to make sure that it was commonly understood that not only had I already conducted my first three interviews, as I'd said, but that they were "mega-interesting" (whatever, it sounds less ridiculous in Dutch - well, relatively less ridiculous, I guess, since the whole charm of Dutch is that it always sounds a little ridiculous). It just kind of felt good to be greeted with such enthusiasm, especially coming from people like these two, who I have pretty much endless respect for. And to, you know, just feel like a part of an academic community like this.
