A continuation of this thread, because I really like hearing about the things people are eating.

Nothing too fascinating here lately, though I had a perfectly serviceable goat biryani last night.  I also had Chicken Pakora, which were fucking awesome in my mind when I was ordering them.  However, when they were delivered, they were basically just semi-soggy chicken fingers with a slight curry-ish flavor.  REALITY LOSES AGAIN.

The upside of this is that I'm now pretty sure I could create my own chicken pakora, and mine would be like twenty times more delicious.  Project time!

i forgot to mention: the mustaine coffee isn't too dark, and has a nice earthy thing happening, but it keeps you shredding all day long.

i mean that in a good way.

I had a great big burrito from Oso Burrito earlier. It was pretty tasty. Tonight I think a bunch of us dudes are going to an Indian place for my buddy Shane's birthday, which was the same day as Aug's.

i'm gonna make pakoras real soon. like, maybe tomorrow.

right now i'm making a big ol' pot of chickpea noodle soup from veganomicon for richard. he's getting sick (or already there) and we're detoxing from all the nasty shit we ate in indiana so i figure this will be good. smells awesome, will report back later. but carrots, onions, garlic, mushrooms, chickpeas, soba noodles + broth = can't go wrong with that, right?

go for malaysian.

i got a waitressing job at this swish asian restaurant, and it is possibly the simplest thing in the world, but why had I never before discovered the wonder that is coconut rice? (especially when you add satay sauce and chilli powder.)

Okay, so dig this. I went out and grocery shopped and ended up having a steak the size of a toilet seat with blue cheese, asparagus, and potatoes. Damn it feels good to be a gangsta.

I had Indian food for lunch. Usually the place is pretty expensive, but on weekends they do a lunch buffet and it's awesome! Chicken curry, bread, rice, chutney, repeat. Delicious!

Red lentil dal with rice, and some sort of gigantic baked samosa contraption that I will call "calmosas" because the dough was more like a calzone dough than anything else. Oh, how I missed real food.

My birthday today, so I sprung for the good shit at the gourmet pizza joint. Italian sausage, roasted peppers, spinach, goat cheese and cheddar. A fine pizza.

Also that sounds like a pretty damn good pizza ellaguru.  And a happy birthday to you as well.

hm, all that sounds amazing too.  I will buy your cookbook when it becomes available.

Thanks! The pizza was good, the birthday drinking the night before was good. All told, a decent weekend to get older.

A friend of mine had a Miracle Fruit party the other day.  Miracle Fruit is an African berry which is made of REAL LIVE MAGIC; you eat one, and it temporarily changes the way your tongue senses flavors, mostly making things seem sweeter, less sour, less bitter.   It lasts for about a half-hour, then disappears.  The big hits were the following changes:

Lemon tasted like it had been dipped in confectioner's sugar -- still a bit sour, but the sweetness blasts right through that.

Grapefruit tasted like some kind of delicious citrus candy, all tartness and bitterness removed but with a definite grapefruit taste still, unlike any other fruit.  This seemed to be everyone's favorite.

Guinness tasted like a wondrous cupcake -- without the bitterness, it was like a dark, sweet, slightly-chocolately baked good.  No one else seemed to agree with me on that, though.

One of them super-sour gummy worms?  It tasted exactly like a regular gummy worm.  Definitely not the most interesting of the foods, but the clearest proof of the chemical effect.

Baking chocolate tasted a bit less horrible, but it didn't end up being delicious or anything.  Still, it didn't have its standard effect of making me feel like I was eating a particularly unsavory dust kitty, so that's something.

A fascinating night!

I think those things would have freaked me out a little, i like to have a rough idea of what something tastes like before i put it in my mouth.

I just had some palak paneer, it was alright if a bit of a rushed job. I probably should have ground up those cadamon seeds Of course if greg had eaten it then it would have tasted of apple tart.

Are you sure it was a "magic berry", Greg?

Are you sure it wasn't LSD?
