I'm listening to Endless Summer by Fennesz. This is rather exciting, because I've been continually annoyed with myself the last few months for forgetting to bring this album along when I moved - it's housed in an oversized thin cardboard box that is a bit too large to fit into my regular cd shelves and was thus always kept on top of the shelf, where I missed it while going through the shelves looking for stuff that I needed to bring with me. At the last minute, I remembered to put it on the list of things that my parents, who are here for a visit right now, should bring along, and I am really very glad that I did. Such a beautiful album.

Before I Leave, definitely a favourite of mine. And seriously, the first time I heard that song I actually thought my cd player was falling apart.

That song's playing right now, actually. And I can definitely relate.

The Bob Seger System - Ramblin' Gamblin' Man
One of the most fun songs you'll hear. Ever.

What I want to know is why otherwise intelligent people are still giving Weezer second and third and fourth and fifth chances. They could write the best pop song ever written at this point, and it wouldn't matter. Their sins have been committed.

you're not wrong.

but the blue album is probably my favorite album of all time (or at least the only competition for wowee zowee), and that's powerful stuff.

plus, a large reason why i've disliked 21st century weezer (not the only reason, but one of the more personal ones) is pat wilson's refusal to be the bad-ass drummer that i know he is, and it sounds like on this album he's finally cutting loose a little.

you know, it's not uncommon for long-lived bands to have periods where they release 2 or 3 uninspired albums in a row...

i'm still partial to the broken flag and shock stuff, but that album is also 100% essential.

uhh, you ARE wrong. why wouldn't you wanna listen to the best pop songs ever written? i know i would, even if the guy writing them would be Dave Matthews or Aaron Carter or whoever. you have some really strict principles.

Also, dudes, seriously, come on, they ARE NOT going to write the best pop song ever written. They are never even going to come close again to the brilliance of the blue album or Pinkerton and you all damn well know it and any talk otherwise is based on nothing but extremely deluded and head-in-sand wishful thinking

Yes, thats when you stop buying them
And I'm way too "old" and "snobby" to have ever liked them in the first place anyway.

Hey hey hey, as head-in-sand as it may be, I kinda enjoy checking up on bands I once loved who have recently had a mediocre string of records.  Especially if there's occasionally a gem to be culled from an album of trash.  I hold no strong-willed hope that they'll suddenly return to form and put out the best record of their career; it's more of a minor thought, more of a "hey, you know what would be cool," but sometimes it's just nice to know that one of your once-favorite bands doesn't quite suck as much as they did a few years ago.

Actually, on second thought, I can't at all justify this behavior.

the devastation i felt upon release of the green album was only roughly half as intense as the joy i felt upon release of the blue album.

maladroit was still disappointing, but it was a step in the right direction. by the time they released make believe, though, i had given up. i still haven't heard that album.

but because they still have some benefit-of-doubt in reserve (thanks to the enormous positive influence the blue album and pinkerton have had in my life), any talk about "return to form" or "it's actually kind of good" will still turn my head. in this case, i'm glad it did, because i honestly agree that half of the songs that have so far leaked are pretty excellent.

My god, you're right.  That opening guitar line IS "You Were My Fiji."  If Vandy was a bitter man, he'd probably have some legal recourse here.

Woah, yeah, you're right. Though JV wouldn't be writing a chorus as lame as this one, I'd like to believe.
