Neva Dinova - MySpace songs

Is anyone here familiar with this guy? I'm pretty impressed with the tracks I've heard on his MySpace, but I know that can sometimes be misleading.

neva dinova's a band, not one person. the only thing i've heard was a split with bright eyes which was more of a collaboration than a split, if you know what i mean. their songs are pretty good on it, but clearly they weren't good enough to send me looking for more of their stuff. but i approve of them, anyhow.

first time listening to a fiona apple record front-to-back. how come no one told me how great the drumming is on this record? i knew matt chamberlain was one of the best session drummers in the business, but i didn't know that virtually every song on this album was going to contain noteworthy percussion of one sort or another. the drum solo in "limp" is jaw-dropping.

I don't listen to enough Fiona Apple. I like her records a lot, though.

Mark Kozelek - "Carry Me Ohio" (Jam Version)

from the Nights album that came with the lyrics book he just put out. Man, I love the guitars on this song. So fuzzy and crunchy and loud, just wonderful.

I want to buy this booklet so much but I've bought way too much stuff lately and I can't freakin' afford it. Just today I couldn't resist hardcover copies of "Red Badge of Courage and (some other Crane story)" and "The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass" for under $4 each at work.

Right Away, Great Captain!- "The Bitter End"

This album is quite a lot better than I was expecting it to be. His lyrics are just very unassumingly charming and affecting.

there was a time when a day wouldn't go by without me listening to one of her albums, usually tidal.  When the pawn is great though.

"Ship of Fools," specifically

Also "Barracuda"

Pretty much the whole record for about a week now

Rita Mitsouko!

When I heard Les Rita Mitsouko for the first time, a year or so ago, I was totally excited, and I posted something on here about it.  And then someone over in Europe (edison, if I recall correctly) was like, "Yeah, that was like standard 80s mainstream music over here."  I was pretty surprised that they never got much play in America.

I think at some point, I also posted a link to the video for C'est Comme Ca, but here it is again.

Fabio Orsi - "Before Long, Before Anyone, The Stars Will Be Walls in My Mind"

Got this 3" in the mail today. I've been meaning to check Fabio Orsi out for a while now but wasn't expecting to be THIS impressed! Already listened to it three times in a row now which is something I rarely do. Beautiful drone stuff, very much recommended to those into Birchville Cat Motel, William Basinski and especially eveything in between.

There's a sample here and it's dirt cheap too:

i'm listening to a compilation of freakbeat singles on decca from the mid-60s. a lot of times i'm not all that excited by these 60s era comps, as so many of them fail to deliver on the promise of nuggets. however, this one's fucking amazing. the score's raved-up cover of "please please me", complete with fuzz guitar, starts it off with a bang, and it stays awesome throughout. a few songs i've heard, like "father's name was dad" by fire and "that's the way it's gotta be" by the poets, are here, but i love them, so that's all good, and a lot of this is completely new to me. and completely awesome. i'm pretty excited.

It wasn't the cover of a record, it was some "don't-hotlink-our-images" kind of deal

Pinkerton is amazing, but in the context of their larger catalog you almost have to consider it a fluke
