It looks like a gerber baby food jar.
It used to contain some kind of italian tuna-tomato sauce, actually.

So I'm embarking on a journey to the spirit world tomorrow.
Let me know if you want me to bring you back a souvenir.

It always looks like what you think it should look like.
Also: Y'know those friends that just happen to have a $20 sack of premium for you when you come over just to hang out cuz they know you're out and low on cash? Yeah, they rule.

Well.... friend in the sense that doing such things is not this person's normal occupation, but they were nice enough to break some off for a nominal fee.

Before the show, we were hanging out with the opening band. First of all, it turned out that they were all 17 or 18, and they were actually graduating high school the next day (which was two days ago, for those keeping track, but there's no reason to keep track). Anyway, we were hanging out, and the topic of grass smokin' came up, and I asked if they had any, since I've been dry for a while, and one of the guy says, totally, we'll smoke you up. We finish loading in or whatever and get stuff set up and the guy comes up to me and says, All right, let's go smoke. But you should throw me a few bucks. Is this normal? Charging someone for smoking them up? I don't think I have EVER come across such a thing. Frank says he think it's just a high schooler thing, since they're basically saving up all their money from their allowance or working at McDonald's or whatever to buy a bag, but it still seemed really weird to me. When I was in high school, neither me nor my friends ever charged anyone to smoke with us.
I ended up declining, deciding I didn't want to be stoned when we played, and that also on general principle I wasn't going to pay someone for a buzz. I'm a potsmoker, not addicted to dope.

For me it would depend on the situation. If it's like a bunch of random people smoking your weed I can understand wanting them to chip in a couple bucks. But if it's just two bands that are playing together, yeah, they should smoke you. Perhaps they just haven't acquired the proper etiquette, yet.
Anyway Mike, I'm afraid to say I did not come across your spirit animal, and in fact am troubled by doubts of its existence.
However, I did return with three parables, which I may perhaps relate later when I feel like typing them up.

Well, rather than making random people give me money, I would just not smoke them up.

It seems to me that the gracious thing would be some kind of unsolicited exchange -- they offer to share their goods, you offer to provide snacks or beverages. Like penny soup -- everybody chips in a bit of what they have.

I think it's totally good form to offer someone a couple bucks or a drink or something for smoking you down; it's totally bad form to suggest that someone should reimburse you for sharing what you've got.

I am behind that! And I mean, if I smoke someone up-down-out, I probably think they're pretty interesting in the first place, so for me that's kind of enough payment. But I've definitely bought beers for someone for getting me high, too.

I'm totally behind this. I mean... If someone's breaking some off for me to take home, then a money exchange is expected, but smoking people out is just good hospitality. I'm hesitant to get all hippie on it, but you smoke people out, you get smoked out. Sometimes you smoke out people who may not be able to smoke you out again in the immediate future, but the cosmos gets you back sooner or later, and it's lame to expect to get paid back. I mean... if you got enough to pass around, pass it around, and if you don't, don't.

I know jeb already drew attention to this, but I think it's pretty cute how we all use different adverbs to describe getting someone high: smoke them up/down/out, etc

I've never been smoked up or down. Only been smoked out. I'd never even heard of smoking down until now but I do know some folks in other parts of the country that smoke up.

Yeah, I'd assumed that Pollo made up "smoking down," but I kinda like it the more I think about it

Interesting. I've always heard it as either to "smoke someone out" or collectively to "smoke up", but never vice-versa. So 'round these parts, plenty of people smoke up and get smoked out, but nobody smokes anyone up or goes to smoke out.

Yeah, I hear smoke 'out' as well, but find the other variations charming.
