Haha have any of you heard that Dwarves anthology "Free Cocaine"? I'm thinking of that one song that ends with a live show sample, with someone saying "Let's hear it for the Dwarves!" into a microphone, and immediately you hear a guy in the crowd yell, "FUCK The Dwarves!"

Fuck it, I'm gonna put that record on RIGHT NOW.

Seriously though - shouldn't that sort of thing be under a link? I thought we had an understanding about that here. My context is not wanting my little girls to see it, and I suspect some of the other parents would prefer to avoid that too, but also some of you guys read this at work, right? It's notoriously hard to make your tone clear on a message board and I'm really not trying to sound pissy - just wanted to bring it up.

Re Dwarves - I’ve removed the image from my post – others will have to do their own.

I didn't post an image of the Dwarves cover, but I'm going to post a link to it and then make it look like I edited this post, just so I can be a part of something.

how about the HIVES!!!

or the CD design itself always looking exactly the same:

they just kept this layout but in different colors.. ONE of the singles was actually just flat and said the hives, but even their live DVD was this same format.

which is kind of cool.
I heard the guy from The Airborne Toxic Event say that his band's name was a big middle finger to band names... but it really isn't, trying to be different is so boring. What's really a big fuck you is naming your band something like The Hives or The Steps and so on..

The Hives are adopting a very specific aesthetic, which I would say comes from mid-60s Motown, frat rock, and garage rock. They're just kind of taking it to its ultimate extension, to the point where they are subverting it even as they are adopting it. The ultimate example of this is Howlin' Pelle's stage presence and between song banter. That band should really release a live LP, because as it is now I feel like you have to go to one of their shows to fully get the picture of what they're doing.

By now I'm sure it's obvious that I think they're brilliant.

they are, pelle's stage personality is the only I've seen that manages to be confident and still vulnerable. Really, you see them live and they just make everyone else look like they don't know what they're doing.
I should know. he "married" the city of San Jose, I was there!

they have released some of their live stuff on B sides and such, and I have a couple of live DVDs of theirs.
most live DVDs are a collection of the best performances throughout a tour, the hives are just incredible every night so this model kind of fails them.

I Was A King - S/T

Depeche Mode - Sounds Of The Universe

Also, I Was A King are great, Norwegian band playing Teenage Fanclub pop/rock, shoegaze warbles, 60s garage rock pop and psych, with late 80s/early 90s US slacker vibes. I can up a couple drop.ios if anyone is interested.

Oh man, when I was in Amsterdam with my family a couple of months ago, my brother spent a ridiculous sum on a Paul Smith dress shirt that was plain white, but had this pattern on the inside of the cuff. It was a good-looking shirt, I admit, but, damn, what a waste of money that could have perfectly well been spent on albums with matching covers instead.
