red button day. beautiful death: the hadron collider final countdown

of course you all know about this, but as it is close to being powered up, you know, let's discuss it. i don't really think mini black holes are gonna eat the earth, however, the image has caught my imagination. i've been trying to picture what would happen if it all went wrong. i wonder if there will be tiny black raindrops sucking away the color in the sky, rending time and space each time they streak by. or, tiny black pearl-sized dots with red eyes gnawing away at the world like some miyamoto enemy that mario can't stomp on but must just avoid. how long would it take,
from things going drastically wrong
,
before things went drastically worse
, and the tiny black holes got to iowa, ate my lcd screen, ate my floors and windows, and would i be able to jump in the car and drive away to gain a few extra minutes as a pitch black abyss stretched behind me, moving ever-forward, far faster than my car can go.

Also if there isn't a MM porno film produced in the next year entitled LARGE HARDON COLLIDER I will consider man a failed species
Whit, keep us up to date on that one

isn't this a plot arc from the ducktales television show? only instead of a black hole it was gold.

Haha, I think I remember that ducktales episode.
My friend and I listen to Coast to Coast AM at work. We were thinking, after the first collision, we should call in and say we were janitors at the LHC. That something went horribly wrong, France has been wiped off the map, we narrowly escaped and there's a giant cover-up involved.

today the bbc told me that particle collision was a brave new world of never-before-attempted science. it then went one better to tell me that for the first time ever, computers around the world were being linked together to work on a problem. also that probably black holes would engulf us all, at the flick of a switch no less. i fucking hate the bbc. if you don't know what you're talking about, at least have the decency to know when to shut up. she even talked all over the person she was "interviewing".

The terribleness of the BBC science reporting has been legendary for a while, but they get a free ride to a degree becasue they piggy-back on the former glories of BBC news.

Dudes, everyone keeps being like "END OF THE WORLD" at all the wrong times. All they did today was fire a beam around it and make sure it was working. They start colliding in October.

I wish people didn't know that, so that everyone would now assume that the fact that we're still here meant the whole stupid discussion was over. As it is, we're now due for at least another month of this.

Mike,
Hello, I am from approximately two months in the future. On 10/22 at approx 2:34am CET a tachyon
field failure in the main resonating ring of the LHC causes a "temporal blowback". Shortly
thereafter, the resulting destruction of the strong nuclear force causes the world to vaporize in
seconds, while a few of us near the experiment are thrown into a temporal causality loop. While
the predestination event (or as we have come to call it "The Big Rewind") hasn't occurred yet to
you, for us it is about three years in our past. I came across your site looking to see if there
were any other scientists that may have theorized this phenomenon who may be of assistance in
preventing it. This brings me to my point, I have repeatedly checked your site for the past five
rewinds at 2:34:01 CET and it still says nope, believe me at this point the LHC has most assuredly
destroyed the world. I can provide a bank account in Nigeria for the funds to be placed. I am
curious to the exact amount however.
