I haven't seen the Rucka/Williams Detective Comics stuff yet, but I'm psyched for it. Also, Greg Nog was right about Red Robin--I'm definitely interested. Hell, even that issue of Batman earlier this month that Judd Winick wrote was really good.

So it look like I will spending an absurd amount of $ on comics this fall, what with the Eddie Campbell Alec collection, the new John Porcellino collection and probably the big new Achewood print collection.

*sigh*

Whoa, they've got Plastic Man in there! That's actually reasonably obscure. Course, Google got Jim Lee to do it, so I guess I should expect no less than top notch quality.

Bethany, considering that I am losing my job I am feeling very torn about the Eddie Campbell collections. I've never seen any of that stuff but Warren Ellis hyped it to the fucking SKY in his book "Come In Alone," and made it sound like it was right up my alley (plus, I'll pretty much try anything Warren recommends). So yeah, I want the stuff, and if I were made of money I'd get it, but I really should probably not mess with it at this point in my life. I guess I'll have to hope they're still in print when my finances straighten out again.

Seems strange that the Flash isn't in there, actually.

So in a few hours I will be going to the used book store/comic store and trading in a bunch of books/comics to buy more books and comics.

Recommendations?

I enjoy weird/"indie" stuff over hero stuff.

The new issue of RASL (#5, I think) just came out last week!  Have you read that yet?  If not, you should buy all five issues of RASL.

I'm not familiar at all with RASL? Is that an abbreviation? Who wrote it?

It's the new comic by Jeff Smith, the guy who made Bone.  The artwork has the same loose mastery that Bone did, but rather than being a Carl-Barks-ish fantasy romp for kids, it's a hardboiled anti-hero story about an interdimensional art thief.  It's really, really fun.

So with the Archie-marrying-Veronica story coming out this month, that means that Archie is actually going to be having sex, yeah?  That's a little zany.

Reread From Hell over the weekend. Pretty comfortable in saying it's the best single work in the medium I've ever read; much, much better than Watchmen in retrospect. I'm chewing through the appendices now.

They still make Archie comics?

I thought the Sapphic fiction fight was lame, but I'm feeling like the Cartilage Head thing is going to go somewhere pretty cool, like the Magic Realism arc did, or the one where Ray went to hell. Those were pretty confusing starts to things too.

All I know of her is that "history" book she put out, which a friend of mine had, and I haven't been able to find anywhere.  Which is unfortunate, because it's awesome.
