I have no idea why in fuck I'm awake; it's one of those awful insomniac headache hangovers where all you wanna do is drink water and eat sandwiches but the sandwiches are far, far away.

And Action Burger is probably not even open for hours and hours

Sorry to have contributed to the hangovers, gents.  I made myself some beans and weiners upon my return home.

Having a hell of a time getting to sleep. Tried all the usual methods to no avail, so now I'm watching DVDs and hoping I can just pass out. Really I want to play guitar or play video games, neither of which is a good idea. Does anyone else have any problems with sleeping after smoking weed? Seems like what always happens is that I end up falling asleep for like a half hour, waking up and my mind races, just can't seem to turn it off. This doesn't happen all the time, of course, but it seems that there might be a correlation.

If my mind is really racing, instead of just going over the same thought many many times, there are a few things I try to fall asleep - making up a weird little melody and kind of letting it go where it wants until I lose my concentration, or starting with a really weird image, say real penguins playing professional basketball, and kind of coming up with more weird images as simply as I can, until I lose my concentration. I know it sounds stupid, and it's not something that can probably be expressed this way, but the idea is that if your mind is over-productive, allow it to produce nonsense.

Reese -- same with me, tend to be prone to insomnia in the first place. I smoked this weed like a good eight to ten hours ago, though.

Well, it is really, really good weed though. I dunno.

Iggy -- thanks, maybe I'll try something like that. Usually I just try really hard to keep my eyes open, and that will do it. But my brain seems to be in super duper overdrive right now, so that's not cutting it.

I really can't wait until Christmas is over... We have extended hours now, and that means I wake up at 5:30 AM to open up on some days, and get home at 12:30 AM to close on others. It's not the worst thing in the world, but it's no good for establishing any kind of predictable sleep patterns.

Up since 6 because of this arsing cough. In the old days, I'd have got up, gone outside, sparked up a fag and then that would've bought me enough time to get back to sleep before it started again.

i have to get up to get on an airplane tomorrow, and I really do think this is a case of me being too excited to sleep. Which is strange, since i'm just going back to the place I actually live. Strange but a very good thing in the grand scheme of things, I think. I just wish I could pass out now so the next thing I know i'm back in the bay. Sorry family, I love ya but we're all adults now and frankly it's all a little weird.

I'm sitting in Port Columbus right now. Flying back at 5:30am and then going to work all day sounded better when I booked this flight a week ago.

I find pot helps me get to sleep, and then makes my dreams awesome. I really want some now so I can just collapse and not go to some stupid new years party

Afternoon naps are a disaster waiting to happen.

After having the worst sleep cycle ever for two weeks, I stayed up Monday night and forced myself to remain conscious all of Tuesday.  I fell asleep at 8 PM and just woke up.  I hope this helps.

over the last couple months, if I have afternoon naps, I wake up with my brain sluggish and my heart racing like its trying to leap up my throat. Horrible!

i think the problem with afternoon naps is your body has to release another big dose of cortisol to wake you up again, and then you're grumpy for awhile because you got all that cortisol working in you.  that's my theory anyway.  hitting the pillow at 4pm always feels like the most peaceful feeling in the world for me, and then the rest of the night i'm in a terrible mood.

I can't sleep for the past week. Then when I do, come 6 I wake up every 20 minutes for no reason.  This goes on and on until I realize the effort of falling back asleep is making me more tired.

Maybe some gentle Coltrane will put me at ease.

Oh man, I'm in this boat too.  And I can't sleep because my lower back has been all fucked up for the past few days and it keeps getting worse.  I've taken to jamming a pillow between myself and chairs, which is sensible and helps a lot, except last night I had a flashback to my parents doing the exact same thing when they were ten years older than I am.
