Forge, you're definitely right. All that shit back in the early 90s where he was stoking the fires of anti-Japan xenophobia, or the recent book "State Of Fear"... yes, Crichton had a gross right-wing agenda that showed through in his work several times. But in the end, I agree with Jim.

Well, right, for that matter, I should point out that despite my current distaste for the guy, I definitely read and loved a whole slew of his books in my younger days.  Crichton is one of a long line of authors that I am not too good for, alongside such fellow luminaries as Ayn Rand, Stephen King, and James Redfield.  Only Dan Brown is missing from my Potentially-Embarassing Literary History Bingo Card.

I remember being pretty let down, but the build up was probable worth it.  Those early scenes were pretty wicked.

George W. Bush is the lamest lame duck this country has ever seen.

He just now appointed that "God Bless The USA" guy to the National Arts Council for a 6 year term.

I can't imagine all the havoc that appalling freak has the potential to wreak on the National Arts Council.

The marine preserves thing he's doing is pretty rad, though. The First Lady is evidently the one who pushed this up the agenda, so I may have to revise my opinion of her a bit. Sure, Bush is probably going for it only so that he can say he "preserved more area than any other President," but I've long ago quit caring _why_ politicians do what I think they should.

Between this and Clinton's wilderness grab, I'm thinking my next vote will be for the Lame Duck / I'm Outta Here ticket.
