Wow, that place is awesome. I remember it was one of the "abandoned memorials in former Yugoslavia" collection earlier in this thread (and I know it wasn't in Yugoslavia :-) but it's great to see some details of the inside of it.

yesterday Anne and I went for a walk to Erskine college. The building is pretty much abandoned, and has at different times been a college, a nunnery (?) and an art school.


Out the front, we saw there was a ladder you could climb up to the first balcony, and so on, balcony, ladder, balcony, ladder, until we were at the top of the 4 or 5 storeys.


There was a wide open window, and c'mon, we weren't just going to turn around back down all those ladders.


It was pretty creepy inside. I mean, the building is enormous, and not earthquake safe (hence its being torn down pretty soon) and there was a lot of creaking floorboards and doors banging in the wind. We were pretty keen to explore, but the place definitely has a strange vibe.



There were sounds of music and people talking. Eventually we realised that in the more-done-up back buildings, there was a wedding going on. It was eerie.
We found a place you could climb onto the roof.


but we didn't explore far there because the wedding party were just below, and we didn't want them to see us.
this hallway reminded me of Session 9.

A dark hallway with a ladder into the dark. I went and had a look, but I was really getting frightened by this place by then.

there were a lot of noises that kept spooking us; eventually we realised they were pigeons nesting inside.
you could see evidence of them all over.

We'd get to stairs and I'd be like "Anne, it's dark down there. Let's go back." And then we'd look at each other and head right down those stairs.

We started finding dead things, just to add to the whole Blair Witch-y vibe going on.


After braving the dark bathroom above, I walked into a large room and scared some pigeons who flapped around alarmingly trying to get out. Then I saw this, just to completely freak me:

Eventually we left, and wandered around the back to a lawn where all the chairs were still set up for the wedding. No one was there.

Never a nunnery, but a Catholic boarding school. They're going to start tearing the building down soon because it's an earthquake hazard. It makes me really sad, especially because they'll probably put up horrible new apartments. I told my flatmate about exploring there and she said "did you see the room with the suits of armour?" and I was like "what?!" and she said "and the chapel?" and I was like "Whaaaat?!?!" Gotta go back.

Neat pictures but I have a project for you New Zealanders: please trap Gin Wigmore in that building and permanently bolt it shut from the outsides. Burning the place down afterward (optional) would also be nice.
