I swore off imperial stouts following last Halloween, which was more barfy than I would have liked. (Note: dressing as Lemmy does not make you Lemmy; you are still a girl who is bad at drinking.)
Have you ever had/seen Riverhorse's Oatmeal Milk Stout around? I ask because it's a NJ beer; it's not imperial, so drink up!; and, most importantly, because it's one of the best stout I've ever had. It's sorta tough to find up this way (only a state away), but may be more commonplace down there.

If you've never had Goose Island's Bourbon County Stout you shouldn't swear off Imperial Stouts 'cause you haven't tasted the best yet. They're better aged though; I'm storing some BCS and some Dark Lord (both 2008 and 2009 bottlings) for consumption in years to come.
I just bottled my Oatmeal Stout Tuesday night; I hope it's as good as last year's batch.

Goose Island's Bourbon County Stout
I haven't had this, but I like Goose Island's stuff in general, so cool. I'd also add Stone's Russian Imperial Stout to the "try this imperial stout before swearing off imperial stouts" list.

I've seen it, but have not had it - I live like 20mins from the Riverhorse brewery. The one I was drinking then was Victory's Storm King (from Philly).
(I am not good at beer; I'll try just about anything once but usually can't deal with drinking more than two bottles/pints of the same thing in a row.)

Yeah, give it a shot then. It's very different for a stout, but very, very good.

I didn't like the Bourbon County very much, but certainly, I think you should try it; it's not much like anything else, so definitely worth forming your opinion about.

I know this sounds incredibly naive, but I'm just wondering if I have a few pints before I go through security am I gonna get fucked with?
I once went to a party and woke up in Florida.
The flight was really early in the morning so I don't think they cared as much, and I was quietly deleted rather than loudly and problematically drunk, but it shouldn't be a thing.

Sorry to jump right in, but if anyone is swearing off imperial stouts I highly recommend Bell's Expedition Stout. Just be careful and only let yourself have a couple 'cause those beers seem to creep up on you and you'll be wasted when just moments ago you swore you were just a little buzzed.

Totally great recommendation. Bell's, in general, is A+ shit. (I've also had their Two Hearted ale and, hmm, something else [I think a wheat beer] - both of which I remember being very good.)

The swearing off came after just three of what I had. I know, I know.

I was lucky enough to live less that a mile from the Bell's Store (or whatever they call it) for about three years in Kalamazoo. There nothing better than hosting a party and serving people good porter instead of natty ice or PBR.
WW the wheat beer was probably Oberon. Everyone in Kalamazoo, even the people who don't care about craft beers, celebrates the day that comes out. Like, playing beer pong with the stuff and bonging it.
MC you're a wise person if you can learn from your bad drinking experiences. I repeatedly fail to do this.

Miles, I'm glad to find you in a place I've been so many times: drinking at an airport and deciding whether to fuck around on the internet or read my book.

Never tried it, but the label looks pretty badass. I'm going to have to have to look for it.

Old Rasputin is good as a baseline, I guess I've gotten used to the idea of Imperial Stouts as one of the beers brewers use to push limits so I usually think of the more extreme versions when making recommendations, whereas Old Rasputin is just a good solid old-fashioned Imperial Stout. Definitely a good beer though.

Hey dudes, I'm super excited because in 3 hours I'm going to visit the new English-style pub that opened across the street from my future apartment. I just dipped inside a minute ago to check out their menu, and they've humored me with a few tasty-sounding vegetarian options! And yes, a very nice beer list. Such a genuine atmosphere! (I can say this with authority because I spent many a mid-day hour in just the sort of English pub it is modeled after during the summer of my 21st year...The Old Tom in Oxford. Also, the proprietor is mad English.)
I also caught a glimpse of some neat coasters, Jim, so my haul for you is about to double (i.e. climb to 2 in number).

Davy, that place looks awesome. I'm a sucker for that shit though.
The (other) person whose birthday we are celebrating today called to bow out. Their whole family is not coming due to them all being sick, which is a huge bumout because it's her birthday and we love their baby, but is also a bumout because she is an excellent cook and was going to bring a bunch of food.

I was like ooh, Terrapin! Then I googled it to see if I could remember which beer I had at beerfest (I think it was the brown ale) and I see that they're local to you, so I shouldn't be impressed after all. Still, that looks like a great pub. If I had one like that locally, I suspect I would frequent it, too.

That pub looks like an excellent place to hang out and/or snag coasters!
