Out-of-context Google searches
«

Sometimes I come back to my computer, switch to Firefox, tab over to the google search field, and think to myself "Why did I google 'Barney Frank's boyfriend' again?"
This is a thread for what you've googled. Don't explain why. Just list your search terms. Or maybe explain why. Or maybe let people guess what you were after. It's stupid, it's fun, it's INTERNET!
Here are a few of mine. In Firefox when you type a search it shows you your past searches matching whatever you've typed so far; I mined the history and these are just a handful of the wider wtf.

I'm sure there's a reference here that I don't get, and that's fine because I love it the way it is.

It's the one really terrible thing George Saunders has ever done.

Nonsense, I thought it was great! Perhaps not as great as the bulk of his short fiction, but
Braindead Megaphone
was one of the most enjoyable books I read last year.

I dunno, man, I just couldn't get into it. Not at all. I'm a huge fan of his ("The 400-Pound CEO" is one of my favorite short stories by anyone ever), but it just felt really flat to me. Alas.

Please let's not make this thread a referendum on George Saunders. It should be far stupider than that.

well, I guess I culled all the ones like "OS 10 migrating mail accounts" or "chicken pox symptoms" that have no value out of context. A lot of the best ones in that list were the 8 year old's.
I never did find the name of the "angry young woman with guitar from Brisbane who had throat problems in the 90s" so if anyone else here can help (not that I expect you can - she only had one hit, her hair was bleached platinum, she was quite young when she had her one hit [1995ish] and she was really fucking angry. She released some follow-up thing after her throat thing was resolved, but it wasn't any good) that would be fantastic. It's still annoying that I can't remember her name...

I remembered! At 3 am (of course) It was Diana Ah Naid (or Diana Anaid as she now spells it) and her Wikipedia page is dull as, so I'm not going to bother linking it. The song was called
I Go Off
and it was pretty good.

Famous popes is a pretty good one, since it seems like it would return all popes. Except Pope Keith, who preferred to stay out of the spotlight.
