conor with two n's is an abomination - the word is a Latin verb, deponent though I don't remember which conjugation, it means "I try"
with two n's it means "I don't know how to spell conor," no disrespect to any two-n conors in the house

That's not true. With 2 n's it's a Gaelic name, is all.

I'm sure hannah will be along shortly with authoritative truth, but meanwhile I'll say that I'm quite certain that the name is of Gaelic origin in either spelling.

None of this changes the fact that Bright Eyes is twee and precious and awful.

Not twee in the strictest musical sense, seeing as the usage of the word has gone far beyond that.

Fair enough. I don't keep up with him, but I was under the impression that he hasn't been recording that angsty, indulgently adolescent stuff for a while. Since he was 20 or so, I guess.

I mean, that really depends. Sure, it doesn't sound like "Fevers And Mirrors" anymore, but it's an open question as to whether anyone thinks it's any less angsty or self-indulgent.

Connor and Conor are the same—Irish—name, the former simply being a normal and expected Anglicization of the latter. The single-N version is therefore earlier but John's argument is quite remarkable in its wrongheadedness.

I stand corrected
, damn I hate that, I thought I was a clever h.s. latin student when we were conjugating "conor" way back when

Oh man, I had no idea it was a corruption of Conchobor. I'm reading the Táin Bo Cuailnge now, and was just wondering the other day why there aren't any modern-day folk named after the guy.
