I will be in NYC from the evening of 11/18 (Wed) through midday 11/22 (Sun) for a conference. Should have plenty of free time in the evenings, and I'll be staying with one of my best friends who lives in Brooklyn. Would love to see some of the lptjNY contingent, if you guys will be around--maybe drinks one of those nights?

By the way, do any of you new yorkers know someone looking for a roommate? I kind of need a place to stay for the next couple months.

Funny that you say that, because I was until like two days ago.

So NYC people, as previously mentioned, I will be in NYC not this weekend but the next one and would love to see you guys. Would people be interested in going out either Thurs, Fri or Sat night? Any strong preferences between those three? I haven't had a chance to think about the details of exactly when or where yet, but I am also open to suggestions. I'll be staying in Prospect Heights, but we'll be pretty game to go wherever I imagine (good beer and/or cocktails being strong incentives as always).

Thursday would be best for me, given my propensity to travel to Philly onthe weekends.  But Friday could certainly also work!

FINE pollo, just be a loser like that. I am actually coming in Wednesday, but between having a full day at school, flying to NYC, getting over to Brooklyn and having an early morning Thurs, I don't know how much hang out I'll be up for that night. But Thursday sounds good to me—will work on the details!

Okay, anyone know a good place in the city for me to get some serious couscous. I don't mean those little boxes or even the jugs they sell in some supermarkets, I'm looking for a kilo bag no frills. Anyone?

question: what do you folks think about pizza, as in, who makes your favorite pizza in NY, what do you think of as the hallmarks of 'great NY style pizza' and how important is authenticity

Authenticity is stupid. If the pizza is good, it is good.

My favorite slice is from Mozzarelli's on 23rd.

I'm pretty easygoing about pizza, which I get the sense is not what a New York dweller is supposed to be.

HEY JIM!  DIDJA HEAR WE'RE GETTING CONE PIZZA?

could you please describe it
any special features? (cooked in wood-burning or other special oven, any unusual elements in crust, type of sauce, type of cheese, other?)

All I know about it is that it made Jim hella mad when he saw it somewhere in the US.  Apparently, it's a franchise-restaurant?  And they're opening one in New York.  I won't lie, I am curious enough to try it.
