John, you've definitely made me want to reconsider "The Golden Age" with your short writeup from today, but it's funny--I've thought very specifically about the fact that that album is the first American Music Club album that I've heard in a near-decade of being a fan (I came to them late--first heard "I've Been A Mess" in 2001, which led directly to my purchases of "Mercury," "San Francisco," "Everclear," and "California," in that order, all within about a year's time) that didn't do much of anything for me. And as much as I love them, I've given it at least a dozen hearings, and maybe more like two dozen. Your article, by pointing out that you did the very same thing, makes me want to go back and give it yet another chance, and I think I may, later tonight. However, as of right now, "Love Songs For Patriots" is the album of theirs that I'd give an Albums Of The Decade nod to, if I were to give one to any of theirs. In fact, I think it got a mention in one of my posts to the preliminary-listing thread over in Earbuds. Can't remember for sure now. I would love to hear what you think of that album, as I myself thought it to be a solid addition to their body of work, both when it came out and in retrospect.

But yeah, I will give "Golden Age" another shot or two, and will report back in the coming days.

weird me, i would give the honors to Eitzel's "The Invisible Man".  Yes, the "electronic" album with the dude from Third Eye Blind on bass.  It hit me harder, somehow.

Wow, really? I avoided that record like the plague. I tend not to like Eitzel's solo stuff anywhere near as much as AMC, though. Maybe I should try a little harder with that stuff too.

I always prefer end-of-decade lists to end-of-year ones. Will this be in print or online?

Thank you, bot, for echoing month-old vows, as it reminded me: I listened to this album so goddamn much last month. I was very drunk at the time. One day I woke up and I was convinced I had turned into a shadow. All the glasses were sweating. This album will not replace or put an end to your habits but it will make them manageable, again. It will put shiny money in your pocket.

My only problem is that it's a little long, but long is relative, long becomes necessary in some stretches of night. Also it is so ornately produced that it makes you think there is sense to be made of everything.
