This Bay cat named Davinci just dropped his first album, The Day The Turf Stood Still (nice title!) and it's free to download.  Haven't gone through it all yet, but it's sick thus far - some hard, street-oriented lyrical shit.  Not hyphy or based.  I suggest downloading.

Having gone through it a time and a half, it's definitely an album worth talking about.

I'll admit, I'm not completely up with the Nicki Minaj news cycle...she's been dissing other female rappers? Hahaha, what? For whatever accidental charm she has, Nicki's a terrible rapper in every way and she has no business dissing anyone, especially when other so many female MCs are underground going harder than ever.

Was listening to OB4CL2 on the train last night and came across what started as a stellar track and then devolved into really disgusting, violent misogyny. Hate that shit.

The only thing I can think of that matches that description is "Gihad," which is less disgustingly misogynistic as it is just general-purpose disgusting.

I dunno. Seeing as so many of Ghost's verses have a short-story / ghetto parable aspect* to them, I'd be inclined to approach a verse like that in the same way I'd approach misogyny in other forms of narrative fiction, be it something The Sopranos, or The Sun Also Rises, or virtually anything directed by Scorsese, or even something like Mass Effect 2 (with its incredibly regressive, juvenile sexual politics): a depiction of misogyny ≠ an authorial endorsement of it.

*see also: Ghost's verses on "Impossible", "The Heart Gently Weeps", etc.

In addition to that, it's very clear that Ghost is clowning, and part of the point of that verse is to just be completely over the top.  I mean, he's talking about being walked in on by his son as he's getting head from a girl who is pregnant with his son's child.  This is one of those things where Ghost decides to tell a completely disgusting story that he, and only he, has the charm to pull off.
