got a couple blocks from work last night and my rear bike wheel wouldn't turn. stopped, got out my tools, checked it, looked like maybe it wasn't mounted right so I adjusted it, rode a few more blocks, something didn't feel right. got off again, took the wheel off the bike and looked and the axle was a little wobbly, looked like the cones had worked loose a bit. So I carried the bike to the train station, locked it up, came back this morning with my freewheel puller and a big adjustable-end wrench, pulled off the freewheel and went to tighten the cones, but noticed at that moment that the axle was bent. Fuck. That's probably the 3rd axle in a year I've had to replace.
I keep bending these damn axles, maybe my fat ass shouldn't be on a bike.

Fuck that, they need to make those axles tougher.

Huh? Ever since I started selling books on Amazon, I've been given TWO (2) days to confirm shipment. You're lucky you got 30.
It's always been the rule that you're "required" to ship within two days. However, there was no way to hold you to it. You could never ship the item at all, and as long as the customer didn't complain, you'd still get paid. Now, though, you have to manually go into your seller account, click on the order, and "CONFIRM SHIPMENT." If you don't, you don't get paid. I mean, maybe I got grandfathered in or something, but I've been selling on Amazon for over a decade, and I've never had to tell anybody when I shipped an item.

FUCK, I just remembered that I have a spare axle from the last time I fucked around with this, so I took the cones and spacers and nuts off this axle and was checking the bearings, the bearing ring was fine on one side but on the other everything was fucked, so I started shaking the bearings out into my hand and a piece of the hub came with them, the hub is cracked all to hell and I'm probably going to have to replace the wheel, again, after replacing it not 6 months ago.

You should talk to the bloke about this issue. Although this is your crappy downtown bike, isn't it? So you probably don't want to spend too much on it in case it gets flogged?

Oh, and it's 34C outside (that's 93.2F for those of you following at home) We were going to go to the pool this afternoon, but the school just rang to say that the big boy isn't well. Unfortunately, the small boy is asleep, so I can't pick up the big one yet... I hope we won't be stuck in this hideous hot house!

Thankfully, you're right and I'm wrong. I say "thankfully" because when I confirmed a shipment on Tuesday, Amazon was glitching all over the place and it took like 8 tries to get the confirmation to go through. Then today, when I signed in to get shipping info for a book I sold yesterday, it had lost the record of my shipment confirmation from Tuesday and was telling me that my shipment was late. I went in and backdated the shipment for Tuesday, there was no problem, and I will now get paid for that $11 book that I shipped earlier in the week. If I'd have been right about having 2 days, their website glitch would have ripped me off for $15. I'da been pissed.

FUCK YOU, AMAZON.
I've been waiting and waiting and my $150 Hunters & Collectors box set FINALLY came today. I sold off a chunk of good stuff from my collection to afford it, and was really looking forward to this.
It's a 16-disc box, heavy and huge, and obviously expensive (the most expensive musical item I've ever purchased, actually, beating out the Bob Dylan SACD box by $25 or so)...I really expected Amazon to understand this, and pack the damn thing securely.
THERE WAS NO PACKING MATERIAL IN THE SHIPPING CARTON. NONE. The beautiful box set is beat to hell. The seams along the corners have split, the little brass knobs on the disc drawers (yes, disc drawers) are loose and about to fall off, the shrink wrap and labeling is literally hanging off in tatters. There are spots where the paint has been scraped off the shell, revealing brown cardboard underneath. Overall, it looks well-used. If they had sold this as a 3rd-party, they would've had to use "Good" to describe the condition--not New, not Like New, and not Very Good. I would've paid $75 at most for this--half of what I actually paid, half of what it's originally worth.
Fuck, fuck, fuck. What are my options here? It's a limited edition release, only a few thousand were made, and they aren't showing any more available on the item page at Amazon. I do want the music after all, and this box is my best chance to get it all (some of the individual albums sell for $30 and up), so this isn't a simple return & refund scenario. Do you think they'd give me a partial refund and let me keep the damaged item? I guess I'd have to document the damage, huh. I don't even have a camera.
No fucking packing material at all. It rattled around in that big box--on trucks, on conveyor belts, probably bounced down a few staircases along the way--all down the eastern seaboard. I can't believe this shit.
Remember that? Well, I called and complained and they said they'd ship me a replacement via next day air. In the meantime, I should return the damaged item. Well, I knew they didn't really understand that this was a limited edition import and that they might not get another one (certainly not overnight), so I held onto the damaged original as insurance. Well, the replacement came today, some 3 or 4 weeks past the promised arrival date, and IT IS IN EVEN WORSE SHAPE. Where the first item had 1-2 inch splits on the seams, this one has entire edges split apart, front to back. Again the shrink wrap is in tatters and paint is scraped off and knobs are loose.
Why?
BECAUSE THEY SHIPPED IT WITHOUT PACKING MATERIAL AGAIN! Correction: they shipped it with two 5-inch squares of uninflated plastic air-bag stuff. Key word is "uninflated." Those things only work when you pump them full of air! If you don't, you might as well put two empty ziploc bags in the box. Not to mention that even if they had been inflated, two squares would hardly have been enough to secure one corner of the box! Wtf, seriously? It's almost comical. Why even bother?
But yeah, this time I personally requested that they put a note on the order to pack it securely. It's too heavy and fragile an item to be banging around inside a shipping carton for 3 weeks. Oh well.
So guess what? They're shipping me a third box, which will probably get here in another 3-4 weeks, and which will probably also be damaged. And now I've got two beat-to-hell $150 box sets to ship back to Amazon.

I got an email from the customer service guy today saying that the system wouldn't let him put a third order through, whatever that means. So now I'm supposed to return both items for a full refund.
Thanks, Amazon, that solves EVERYTHING! I'm so satisfied with my purchase!

I'd be like "No. I will send back the one that is most damaged, keep the one that is less damaged, and you will go ahead and issue me that full refund."

I feel like the sensible thing here is for them to issue me a partial refund. It's what I've been angling for the entire time. I'll call back tomorrow, get someone different, and start over. I'll probably ask to talk to a supervisor. Someone that understands we're not talking about a Lord of the Rings DVD, here. This box is the size of a small toaster oven for christ's sake, and it's filled with CDs! You don't just drop it in a shipping crate and send it off.

Hey Joe, I hope you feel better soon. If you are scared though and have any doubts re: how throwing up is affecting your blood sugars and such, be sure to check your ketones, and if it lasts for a while and/or your ketones are high, definitely call your doctor and consider going to the hospital. If your ketones are non-existant or trace though, you should be ok to just slowly hydrate and try to wait it out. Stomach bugs definitely freak me out too, because it's way too easy for us diabetics to go into DKA when we have that kind of illness, which is a lesson I learned the hard way. Hopefully it will be short-lived though and none of that will be a concern, but just saying not to hesitate to get help if you are really unsure.

well it passed the next day, whatever i had. but i'm still really worried about my overall health. i've been pretty sick since september, and the antibiotic course i was on didn't work the first time around. eh, its complicated. it would do me a lot of good if i wasn't so worried every day, but its almost like i'm running on it right now, and having to make a lot of anxious decisions.

there's a race track a couple miles south of us that hosts extremely loud cars. well apparently every weekend before thanksgiving they hold some kind of race, and even though its five miles or so to the south of, it sounds like its right next door. every couple of minutes i hear what sounds like a car engine three inches away from my ear blare up. not happy.
