Oh, yeah.  That happened on Saturday morning.  Just before the bleach opened up in my bag, killing my cell phone and ruining my pants and giving me a chemical burn on my lower back.  It was a pretty bad day, all told.

EDIT:  New page!  New page post about burns I have incurred!

Ugh, that sucks Greggo.

In other news, a while back I acquired a bed (after having to use an air mattress for a not-insignificant period of time).  When I first started sleeping on this bed, I was having intense back pain in the morning, which I attributed to a necessary period of adjustment from going from air mattress to regular mattress.  However, the pain has not stopped with time, and I am now in incredible pain any time I turn/bend/exist.  It's really, really fucking bad.

Is there some sort of anti-discrimination law I can use to force them to stop playing Christmas music at work? Cause seriously

Not working retail over the holidays is a blessing, for the reasons of no Black Friday, and no Christmas music.

It's not that I feel discriminated against so much as oppressed by some Dean Martin sound-alike singing a weirdly syncopated version of Jingle Bells. And Rockin Around the Christmas Tree has been stuck in my head all week. Want. To. Kill.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer/ walking home from our house Christmas eve/ You can say there's no such thing as Santa/ But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

One thing I hated about Christmas in retail was how much shorter the playlist for in-store music was, so not only would we here these asinine songs, but we would hear them far more often than is humane or decent.

Because I was out of school for the few weeks before/after Christmas the last couple of years, my boss invariably treated me to 50 hour workweeks, right at peak christmassongfuckery.  If you had to ask me whether that or inventory was worse, I have to say, even though during inventory I worked overnight 50-60 hours a week for 2-4 weeks while going to school full time and thus only slept about 3 hours every other night, at least I got to not wear my uniform to work and blast death metal/rap over the store PA.

Today I decided to go to Target, and wow, that was the worst fucking mistake ever. The girl at the customer service desk looked like she was going to cry, and I wanted to hug her.

Last year at this time, I was working in the middle of a mall selling calendars until 11:00 on weeknights and 1:00 on weekends, well after the buses stopped running. This year I work in the spacious, quiet kitchen of a bakery, washing dishes and placing hazelnuts on cakes at my own leisurely pace and listening to the '90s on 9 over satellite radio. My Romanian boss, in spite of a recent episode where I've rightfully incurred her wrath to where she can hardly speak to me, nonetheless stuffed a 4-DVD set including A Fistful of Dollars and The Magnificent Seven into my jacket sleeve tonight along with some Christmas ornaments. Because it's St. Nicholas Day, nothin' she can do about it.

I mean, I hate work, and I hate the Christmas "season." But I'm pretty excited that I'm not in direct contact with the mall-shopping public.

Since this is the annoyed thread - what's up with this dilletantish snow that does nothing but slush up the sidewalks such that my soaks are unavoidably soaked after a two-block walk? Dang.

What kind of mall is open until 1AM? Jesus Christ. When I worked at the mall, they were sometimes open until 11 but we were gone by 11:30.

Last year Macy's stayed open 24 hours for the week before Christmas. I think that's ridiculous.

Thankfully I don't work there. Normal mall hours are bad enough!

Dang, the malls in Macon used to close around 9 or 10. Like, all the stores would close at 9, and then the mall would close an hour later.

That's how Crossgates (local mall) operates normally. But between Black Friday and Christmas Eve, all weekend hours are extended. The weeknights start getting later in the two weeks or so immediately before Christma.. My store, from which I operated a  satellite kiosk, had it's own entrance and stayed open until 10. And we'd clean up until 11:00. For some reason, they couldn't have the people on the floor straightening books during business hours, I guess. Technically, the mall itself never closes, partly because of the movie theater.

When I worked at Best Buy, we were open until 3 for the few nights before Christmas. I was in Sears the other day, and they had the Christmas music on about 20% louder than normal Muzak. Yecch.

Have barely started Christmas shopping.

I'm annoyed that I don't know when to expect F back from his 7-hour voyage to play a single basement show.  Haven't heard anything at all since before the show.

Maybe he's enamored with Carbondale, IL and has not the gumption to tell me.

I just wish he'd tell me what was up.  How hard is it to call?

And five minutes later, I get the call to pick him up @ the Borg Ward...

Behold the power of the internet rant.

Ugh. I don't have two fucking pennies to rub together for that shit this year. I don't even have any money for finishing studio work nor would I have anywhere to finish it if I did.  Mad

No way, Carbondale isn't that cool.

I have not really done so much present-shopping - but I have done plenty of planning for things I want to make. The edible stuff can't be made before the 23rd and I have two sort of large commissioned projects that need to be done on the 10th and 19th before I can start anything else. So I am filled with frazzle.

..but the only idea I had for Bill, my mom already got for him! I was thinking of a Garmin because we've had a tomtom for a number of years now and IT IS ALWAYS WRONG AND EVIL. When I told my mom today she was all, "NOOOOO," because apparently they were on sale somewhere the weekend after Thanksgiving and she picked one up for him because we bitched about it so much. Fraggles and shit.

And I need to stop staying up late.

FUCK YOU collection agency, when I bought the guy's house I did NOT also buy his debts and there's NO FUCKING REASON you should be calling my goddamn phone.  Go bug his kids or something fuckers, or better yet, get hit by an asteroid and die, or better yet, get disemboweled by a bowling trophy and die slowly.  You fuckers.
