had a moment of clarity recently. was picking up chicken from the grocer to make moroccan stew and was looking back and forth between the organic farm chicken breast for $12 and store-brand thighs for $3.50 when i realized that it really won't matter how much you've overpaid for a lower input product, once zombies take over the world and farm us humans for meat may god have mercy on the souls of those who support any kind of commercial food production.

So I went in to get tattooed today, and Steve was working on some girl who had the slot before me.  When she finished and left, the idiot trollop took her art and my art, and proceeded to drive back to fucking OHIO and not answer her phone with the studio guys tried to reach her, and now I have to wait another week.

I've got a compilation of some Class War magazines in a box back in New Zealand. If I had it with me I could scan in some of the advice they give on how to deal with the yuppie menace. Tips included introducing them to the rustic charms of the neighbourhood by running tractors down their street at 4am and letting goats graze in their yards.

It's called Yuppietown, performed by Alistair Hulett who used to front the socialist punk/folk band Roaring Jack, so you have to imagine it louder and faster and with more beer. (it's about the inner western suburbs of Sydney, where the band used to play weekly through the 80s)

Didn't Conor Oberst write a song or a record or two about this like 8 years ago?

Fark! It's 19:10*, 34* outside 31.5* inside and only going to get to 20* tonight. 38* tomorrow. I'm over it. Actually sitting outside as it's more comfortable than in.

While that sounds pretty horrible, dang man, this is supposed to be hight of midsummer. So why is it about 12 degrees and raining most days? Wellington summer sucks.

My brother's body was 39 degrees last night according to his girlfriend who is Slovakian and talks in centigrade. He's like Australia in tomorrow's daytime, deadly hot. Stay in the shade clare and drink the water! I suppose your body would be dead from cold at 12 degrees, GCR, so run in tight circles if you find the time and if your body is prone to matching ambient temperature.

I'm pretty sure GCR's body wouldn't be dead from cold at 12 degrees, as I'm also pretty sure she means 12°C, which is 56°F. I would however be willing to agree that summer in Wellington sounds a bit lame weather-wise, while sympathizing even more with those of you who are currently covered in their own sweat.

Here, temperatures are actually approaching 12° (F!) fairly often these days - a couple of weeks ago it was 0°F (-17°C) in the middle of the afternoon - I went out briefly that day and after ten minutes of walking or so started feeling various parts of my body go completely numb. It was freaky! We now have about 4 inches of snow, which looks pretty nice.

I think Ignatius was expressing his hope that GRC's body won't take on the outside temperature (in the same way that his brother's body has the same temperature that clare is struggling with as outside temperature). A body temperature of 12°C would be quite deadly indeed.

I'm glad that our previous observation that the weather is always the same in Strasbourg and Maastricht isn't holding up this winter, as -17°C is not a temperature I'd like to deal with. It has been surprisingly cold here the last few weeks too, but not quite as bad as that.

Still, man, I am not looking forward to cycling out to piano lessons tonight.

Thanks for the clarification - I had the nagging sense that I'd probably misunderstood Ignatius's post entirely, but wasn't sure how; seems quite obvious in retrospect. Forget I said anything, then.

(I cycled to work on Friday when it hadn't started snowing yet, but left the bike here for the weekend because I decided that it wouldn't be much fun (and might actually be pretty dangerous) to cycle with heavy wind + snow often falling horizontally as a result of said wind. Hoping you have less or no wind for your ride tonight!)

And cold showers.

yeah, Melbourne had it bad today (43.1) We rarely get that, but we have a couple of times. It's no fun. I hope it cools down for you overnight.

Anything having to do with my law school other than the actual classes themselves is absolutely retarded and everyone involved in administration is an incompetent douchebag.

Found out today--after receiving no notice from my school, that one of the classes I'm taking was moved to a different time: a time that conflicts with my schedule.  Now, I have a pretty tight schedule because I go take 15 law school credits on M/W and work the rest of the week.  This means that it takes a lot of work to set up a schedule with classes that I actually want to take that fit nicely into place.  Intellectual property in Cyberspace must now be replaced with either Mass Media Law (which is full and I'm #13 on the waitlist), or fucking Law of Nonprofit Organizations.

FUCK.  What do I PAY THESE ASSHOLES forty g's for?

My iPod mini suddenly stopped working completely the other day, and nothing I could do would revive it.  I'd had it for about five years, so figured that was a pretty good run, and reluctantly bought a refurbished nano to replace it.  The nano is currently wending its way through the postal system, heading toward my front door.

So today, my old mini mysteriously started working again.  I wish I hadn't bought the new one, now.
