Jeep wouldn't start this morning; for God knows what reason, the battery was dead. Had to get my neighbor to run me to Napa so I could buy a new one, then while forcing the old off with a pair of channel locks (didn't have the right size socket for my ratchet), one of the terminal nuts went cartwheeling and I spent a good ten minutes on the ground looking for it. And I hit my head a bunch of times and missed my ferry. Good stuff!

It's a good thing you didn't have to fight zombies at the same time!

On reading your post I was reminded of "Sheep in a Jeep" which is a favourite book here ("Uh Oh. Jeep won't go")... I hope it ends up better than that for you, though I'm sure the book would be improved with some zombie action.

Fuck a zombie, I'd rather have some sheep in my Jeep. I mean, that would really put me out there, you know?

Today at work a scientist accidentally flicked hagfish slime on my shirt. If you don't know what that is, imagine snot, except its snot that came out of a dead fish.

No accident - typical scientist move. "Oops, how clumsy of me, let me get that hagfish slime out for you, dear."

Sick with a nasty cold for what feels like the hundredth time this winter. I actually feel like I've been sick consistently since about October or so, it just gets worse sometimes and I feel absolutely miserable (like now), but my baseline is still decidedly sick.

Just seeing hagfish slime on TV makes me gag. I applaud you for not barfing on the scientist.

Oh man, that's such a great book.  A big hit with my various nephews and nieces (and their parents.)  I mean how can you go wrong with couplets like "Jeep in a heap.  Sheep weep."

Man, I bought that book for Finn 2 or 3 years ago because it's so crazy. Sometimes I hate it. Most times I love it.

I'm writing performance reviews for my dudes today.  Man, I should have checked their objectives earlier.  Most of these guys are new to my team, but not the company, so they have a ton of shit from their previous roles.

Especially the Bangalore guys.  For some reason they got it in their heads to register 10 goals for the year instead of the usual 3-4.  And they gave themselves self-assessments with the highest possible rating for every goal.  What the fuck, guys, you aren't fooling me.

(sorry if this doesn't make sense outside corporate USA, I'm just venting a little)

- Apparently the CD I sent to B&W magazine for consideration for a feature didn't work for anybody. I have no idea why since it was fine when I shipped it, but I burned it in OSX instead of Toast (because $99 is too much to pay for the privilege of burning CDs that work) and apparently nothing worked.

+ B&W magazine did contact me and ask for another CD, which is definitely not a courtesy I would have expected. I will be using Toast this time.

If you're like me and you'd never heard of a hagfish, much less its slime, I can't recommend this enough:

G.C.R shoulda been like, "Oh, I barfed on the scientist all right!" That would've ruled.

EDIT: should have finished the page. Girl already got this one.

I had been retching when we first got in the room, and then we had dramas cos this one scientist fainted (combo of stomach bug and, I'll hazard a guess, giving an interview while standing next to a tub full of dead hagfish) and then the presenter had to do about 15 takes of her piece to camera because who can remember lines when theres been folks fainting and theres a big clump of slimy fish on the table that you're sitting by. So by the time I got slime flicked on me (he'd moved the fish, then come and talked to me and started gesticulating without removing his gloves) it was really just one thing in a sort of stressful morning. And oh my god that lab stank worse than you know
But mostly this job is interesting in a way more positive way

Still sick. Couldn't even attempt going to work. I only have enough PTO to cover one of the two days I'm missing so I'm probably getting written up too. Fuuuck. Maybe I can work ten hour days next week.
