Honestly, people talk about it wayyyyy too much for how shitty it is. Even appreciated ironically, it sucks.

I continue to be vaguely entertained by White Collar. This week I was impressed by the written-in(and therefore unskippable on the DVR) Ford commercial where they attempted to impress me by their car's many-buttoned navigation system. I still skip most of the regular commercials.

I have gotten to the point where people are talking about that show so much that I almost want to watch it just to see what they're talking about. Almost.

I do know one thing--on a purely physical level Snooki is in many respects my ideal woman.

Seriously. So hot.

Like em orange and trashy, eh?

wonder if she qualifies as an "alt-baguette." wonder if a "juicehead" is a type of "alt-bro." wonder if the experience of living on the jersey shore is more "authentic."

I've never heard of someone being called a baguette, but Urban Dictionary is telling me that it's the female version of "douchebag" - I really never thought there was a need to distinguish gender for that.

Anyway, basically 80% of the people I grew up with (fyi: 20 minutes south and along the coast) have been up in arms about it's "representation of the Jersey Shore", and how these people aren't from the area and represent the absolute worst thing about the shore in summer. There hasn't been a week since before it even premiered that I haven't seen someone join a new Facebook group: "Keep Jersey Shore of the air", "NO!! We don't Fistpump!!!", etc.

For me, I haven't watched as much as I wanted to, but I've never been insulted by it. I knew it'd be a trashy guilty pleasure from back in the time when they were airing the commercials that actually showed Snooki get decked. If nothing else, Seaside Heights didn't need MTVs help to be viewed as this terrible summer community - hell, I remember kids calling it Sleazeside for as long as I can remember.

On the plus side, it does have a rooftop minigolf course, and I would go there again anytime.

I don't see it as a derogation of young Italians (then again, I ain't Italian), but as a pretty accurate representation of a type of young person in America--image and status obsessed, completely shallow, ignorant, uneducated, and uninterested in changing; violent, drunken, and mean--that very plainly exists and flourishes nation wide. Club trash, if you will.

It should be noted that I've never watched, nor will I ever watch, this show.

I mean, I think that "guido" is pretty obviously a derogatory term for Italian-Americans, and I understand why people are getting offended at that*.  On the other hand, I agree with the above, since the word has come to refer to people of any ethnicity that dress and coif and stylize and generally comport themselves in a certain, fairly specific way that has nothing to do with being Italian.

* For a significant portion of my childhood, I had no idea that "dago" was an offensive term, as my mother's side of the family, who are distinctly quite Italian in lineage, referred to themselves and each other as such.  Same thing with "pollack" (pronounced pole-ock) for the Polish side of my family.

I've only seen the first part of the first episode, but I'm rather taken with the Situation as synchedoche: his abs are The Situation, but to refer to his abs is also to refer to himself, The Situation.  I find it strangely pleasing that, merely by lifting up the lower part of his shirt, he can gesture toward the rippling concatenation of potato-like protrusions, and say, "This is me.  This is the totality of who I am."

It makes me wish I was teaching a high-school English class, solely so that I could use that as my go-to example of synechdoche!

it's the same reason I'm called The Disappointment.

Andrew, you know Snooki is like 4'10" or something ridiculous, right?

I watched the finale last night, which was mostly a fond look back at blah blah and so not very entertaining.  Fortunately the Tivo is set to record reruns, so I'll catch the first half of the season at some point, since I don't see MTV laying off the reruns.

I have a hard time articulating what I like about this show, but I think it's mostly about appreciating the diversity of humanity.

That's one of my favorite parts of her physical appearance. I almost posted a pic of her standing with J-Woww just to emphasize how short she is, but I thought that might confuse the issue.

And in response to pollo's comment, orange is whatever, I could do without the fake tan. But trashy? I LOVE trashy girls. I have often wished that I could meet a girl with a trashy fashion sense but an intelligent/interesting outlook. This is probably why I love all those alt-stripper/Burning Angel/Suicide Girl types.

Snooki is also the only girl on that show with any amount of personality whatsoever.  The producers wisely give her a roughly 85% share of the female screen time.

Outside of Hofstra, my school must have one of the highest student population of tri-state club trash, as epd callled 'em. Riding the bus on Saturday morning/afternoons is great - there are at least six conversations about past and future fights and/or blowjobs going on at once, and very little else. The student newspaper op-ed section is pretty much the same way. You're welcome to come up here and find yourself a Snooki, TSKS, but those bars are hell even for those who drink.

So while I'm still enjoying Big Love, the writing has really devolved into a maelstrom of contrivance and

It's still entertaining enough, but it does seem like the writers are going a little bit crazy this season. Also, I'm extraordinarily fond of Harry Dean Stanton, so I'm dealing with that as well.

Why isn't the State of the Union on PBS? That's odd.

Okay, so this week's Chuck upped the ante with not only 60% more fun, but at least 30% more ridiculousness. Who knew that out of the Heroes/Chuck combo, it'd be Chuck that I still follow.

And sure, I could get excited about guest star WWE's John Cena, but in reality, I'm more excited about guest star Robert Patrick!
