I don't know, can they top "Why would God send such a shitty angel?"  Lost is pretty terrible, but that's a high bar.

A few weeks ago I was toying with the idea of rushing through seasons 3-5 of Lost on Netflix so I could be caught up and ready for season 6, but I realized 1) I don't have that kind of free time and 2) that much concentrated stupid in a compressed amount of time might be dangerous to my health. I still have fond memories of the first season and a half of the show, but I don't care anymore. I'm sure it's gonna be idiotic.

I'm pretty sure they're going to explain next to nothing, and expect their fans to be satisfied when Jack and Kate make out at the end.

xposts

Dooo it Thermo, S1 is OK, kinda fun, S2 is terrible, S3-S5 are also terrible, but in the same sort of way 24 is terrible.  They would amuse you.

another xpost  He kind of already did turn out to be a Cylon!  Or something!

my god jack and kate (especially kate) are by far the worst characters on an already not-that-good-show.  I just want that shit to be done with, because most of the people I know are WAY more into it than I am.

There's not enough time or willpower to catch up on 50+ hours of Lost between now and Tuesday. Could you imagine the terrible physical and mental toll that kind of reckless binge would take on a man? Worst lost weekend ever. Maybe I'll just find some spoilery recaps to read.

It's seriously not worth it. I finished se. 5 (and will watch se. 6) out of pure, grudging spite. It's really, really dumb, and only barely guilty-pleasure dumb. If I could get back all the time I spent watching the first 5 seasons and replace it with time spent reading or masturbating I certainly would.

"Better than reading or masturbating?" is a pretty sensible baseline against which to appraise leisure time allocation. I think I'll just watch the season premiere. I'm sure nothing confusing has happened between seasons two and six, right?

God, if that means the quasi-spiritual tinge to Locke's character in Seasons 1-2 have since sprang into full-on messianic overtones, I'm definitely on board.

"Better than reading or masturbating?" is a pretty sensible baseline against which to appraise leisure time allocation.

By that metric, almost everything loses out, though. The only other thing as good as those two things is listening to music.

A post inspired by Gilmore Girls talk in the J.D. Salinger thread, which I figured I'd post somewhere more appropriate:

I've recently been populating my netflix queue exclusively with DVDs of TV series, because I go through them much faster (I'll sit down and watch an episode of a TV show while I'm eating dinner, and get through a 4-episode DVD in three days, but I'll put off watching a movie for two weeks because I don't want to spend 2 to 3 hours in a row watching TV), so I'm thinking I should probably add season one of Gilmore Girls?

Anyone have any opinions about this?

Guys, don't do this, you are so wearing down my resistance to giving Gilmore Girls a try.

I'm honestly not kidding when I say it got me through a dark time in my life. I fucking loved those characters, even when they did the stupidest shit.

I wouldn't recommend it to everyone, but I'm pretty damn certain both you guys would love it.  There's funny dialogue and about 70 pop-culture references per minute and a large cast of talented character actors and lots of Lauren Graham in wrap dresses.  Some of the later seasons have pretty serious flaws, but even when those occur, they're in the over-arching storyline and it's still highly enjoyable on an episode-by-episode basis.

Dude, it will be your favorite thing. I love seasons one through four unconditionally for all the reasons blucas mentioned.
