Yeah, I'm hoping against hope that this snow keeps up such that we're closed down tomorrow. Last week, I made the mistake of coming in and finding out that I would only be there for < 3 hours, which is 100% not worth the time and effort of getting out to work and back home.

exchange with the boss yesterday, when telling me to get up so he could sit at my computer and make some text fit on one page in InDesign (he does not know words like 'leading' and does not understand how to use tabs--he sticks with fifty spaces to move something over):
me: just tell me what you want and I'll do it--I can make it fit on the page.
him: no, I'll do it--it requires thinking.

Weird, I just got off the phone with one of my minions, and he was seeking advice on how to deal with exactly that kind of person: doesn't know what needs accomplishing, much less how to accomplish it, and so throws chairs around instead.

It's the prevalence of people like that that makes me wonder how humanity has gotten as far as it has.

I made a great discovery today. I wanted to address three of the guys that work for me in an email, so I put their initials together and got "T/V/P." So now I'm referring to my employees as a meat substitute.

Okay but downside. I just got yelled at by my boss's boss for using the copy area, which is next to her office, for phone calls. My voice is really loud, and I'm terrible at moderating it - if I'm thinking about keeping my voice down, I'm not thinking about what I'm saying and I make no sense. If I'm at my cube, I'm pissing off 20 very quiet people, which is why they gave me a wireless headset in the first place.
Basically if you want me to be a manager, fucking give me an office or I can't do my job.

I once convinced a job with no where near enough room for everyone that I needed to keep my relatively spacious office because my job description included firing people, and offices with doors that close are helpful for that. I got to keep my office, though I didn't ever fire anyone.

That's just it! I have all sorts of confidential conversations all the time! Plus I'd asked her if it was okay a few different times and she was fine with it, but suddenly she's not. Fucking GRAR.

So tired. Being two people every day is really difficult. In case that wasn't enough, every single other thing that could've gone wrong today did. Our trainee showed up an hour late, it was her 4th day, but rather than continuing her training we just had to stick her on what she already knew and hope she could make it through the day. The shipment showed up just before lunch breaks were supposed to start, so we had to push those back, and since my former boss had under ordered the week before so there wouldn't be as much to count for inventory, it was a big shipment. We were busy all day. Way busier than we usually are on a Tuesday. I swear to god, if I go through all this and they bring in someone new to take my job, I don't see much point in wasting my time at this store afterward.

I say, "they need these images to be much larger for the book"
boss says, "why don't you crop it?"
I say, "that makes it smaller like, you know, cutting the top off of a piece of paper" (I hold up piece of paper, mime slicing the top off, think about reaching for scissors to actually do it as the point doesn't seem to be getting across)
I slap forehead mentally, in utter disbelief. this was after an entire morning of emails back and forth about image size, resolution, etc...

Cannot wait to put all of the petty bullshit, personnel issues, annoying customers, investor ass kissing, and general bullshit of this job behind me. It's been good for what it is, but it's also great knowing that it's coming to an end soon.

Minuses: hung over from tasting over twenty beers last night and staying up way too late to finish BioShock 2, came into work and everyone is on my dick, apparently the entire world has decided that I am doing their jobs for them, and whenever anything needs deciding it's up to me, even when I haven't been informed as such
Plus: I get to tell everyone what to do

Just applied for a position as a nurse case manager for the Special Needs Clinic at my hospital. I'd work with children with complex, chronic medical needs. I work with a lot of these patients now, but it would be in the outpatient setting. I imagine that it would be quite different. Kind of contemplating change b/c I like parts of my job, but it's just really stressful all the time.

There's a new girl at work who used to be a tour guide, and by god you can tell. It's bla bla bla to EVERY SINGLE CUSTOMER I was actually quite impressed but also mildly disgusted.
Also, self-checkouts are the tool of the devil. A) Who wants to do the work when you go to a checkout, and b) These things take the one good thing of checkouts/my job--human interaction--away in the name of corporate money-saving and job reduction. They pretend it's in the name of giving people 'privacy' at checkout, as though a 30-second interaction with a stranger is somehow invasive. Hurff.
