their last couple albums have been real growers for me, because at first its like "well its more high on fire" which is cool but not really exciting. but then i listen to it for a while and learn the songs and get really into them and end up loving it.
That's exactly how I felt about death is this communion

Got the new one, listened to it in the car, sounds pretty fun so far.

Amon Tobin - Supermodified / Out From Out Where

Picked these up downtown the other night. Pretty sure both copies were originally mine, and have been sitting on that rack ever since I traded them in like a dumb ass two or three years ago.

Good music always circles back around, ain't that right?

Is the Peggy Suicide Deluxe Edition an import?

***

A bit of traveling the past few days led me to pick up these:

Social Distortion - Social Distortion

Seam - The Problem With Me

3D's - Hellzapoppin

Sloan - Smeared

Simon Bonney - Forever

The Afghan Whigs - Historectomy

Associates - Popera: The Singles Collection

The Rollins Band - The End of Silence

Superchunk - Tossing Seeds (Singles 89-91)

Saccharine Trust - Paganicons

The Creatures - Boomerang

All used, save for Social Distortion.

Yeah, but Amazon has it for the standard price...and I got mine for even less ($20, new) from a third party UK company.

Four discs of girl group sounds, lost and found. Purchased with birthday money from my moms. Thanks, mom!

Even more:

Kiss - Destroyer

Prince - LOTUSFLOW3R, MPLSOUND/Bria Valente - Elixer

Joanna Newsom - Have One on Me

I probably wouldn't have picked up the Prince album(s), but Target marked down the price to $4.98--no doubt in hopes of clearing out some of the massive stock--and I did my part to help free up some shelf space.

The dialogue on the Bria Valente disc is that she is among Prince's more anonymous proteges, but I really dig that record far more than the two attendant Prince records (although the non-ballad moments on MPLSound are the most alive I've heard Prince in years, all leaning back to breathe fire and/or glitter).

Just quoting to register how much I love the uniform design of Sacred Bones record covers.

I'm only listening to it for the first time now. I'm quite liking it so far. I liked New Raytheonport a bunch and this is quite different. The whole retro-futurism synths are a bigger part of the sound and draw some of the warmth out. It's still basically 60's folk/psyche under all the bubbling and buzzing though.

I totally agree Black Amnesia. It's a big part of what drew me to the label (as well as the great music of course). I'm a bit of a collecter scumbag sometimes which makes the whole uniform aesthetic thing right up my alley. My favourite cover is probably this one:

Yeah, for sure. I harangued my friend who stocks records in his art gallery/comic store into ordering a bunch of Sacred Bones stuff in. I woulda got the "Flowers" LP but had to get that fucking Sun Ra album. I'll have to get him to put it to one side til next payday.
Artwork is awesome yet again:

JUST picked these LPs up at the store. Sadly they had Criminal Minded, but it was on hold for someone else.

Some impulsive shit today.

Wasn't like I could turn this down, though:

Pavement - Quarantine the Past: The Best of Pavement (double LP)

Last month, I was actually going back and forth over whether I really needed to buy it, seeing as I already own all these songs many times over. But when I walked into the shop and saw that gatefold sitting there all plump and pretty (and it is pretty), there was no more going back and forth. There was only forth. Besides, it was only $16, which I thought was more than reasonable.

I also snagged two good-lookin' CDs by bands I've never heard of before off the bargain shelf. $2 each:

Woodpigeon - Die Stadt Muzikanten  /  Cotton Candy - Top-Notch & First-Rate

I listened to both of these briefly before buying, and the former sounded a little countryish, and the latter sounded a little Unicorns-ish. The former also comes with a bonus CD titled Balladeer. That's all I know right now. If anybody has any info on these two groups, let me know!

davy, did you pick up the Promise Ring album? I've hummed "Very Emergency" to myself a few times since that post.

found cheap at the Friends of the Library bookstore this weekend:

Silver Jews, Starlite Walker and the Tennessee EP. The former's not new to me but the latter is, and it's worth the two bucks just for "I'm Gonna Love the Hell Out of You."

Nah, I passed on it. Just not in that frame of mind right now.

But I've been meaning to pick up that Tennessee EP forever. We actually listened to Starlite Walker during our recording session today, singing along between takes.

Ha, nice! Tennessee is on its fourth consecutive spin right now, it's exactly what I need right now.

I still recommend Nothing Feels Good, just to stockpile until it becomes relevant. Shit, I've spent two bucks on Pickin' On Creed, just for the hell of it, and I don't even regret it.

Well, okay, a little.
