Not purchased yet, but seriously considering pulling the trigger on this once I get paid.  Because I haven't been able to find that shit anywhere.

Honestly, I'm just going by the fact that I heard a small handful of their songs back around 2001 or so that I really liked, the only one of which I've been able to track down being When I Was a Baby (which didn't surface until after The New Pornographers covered it), and haven't even found the compilation anywhere.  That is, in actual record stores as opposed to online.

The Wikipedia entry says that the first records were released on Cryptovision, which the thing I linked to claims to be, so I'm going on a massive lack of information (which is in keeping with this band in general) and some sincere hope.

just picked up the new Drive-By Truckers. on one listen, I'm not blown away, but they're one of those Sonic-Youthy bands who set the bar so high for themselves, so seemingly effortlessly, that it can be difficult to assess, because their failing to transcend their own songbook is such a relative phenomenon. looking forward to living with it for a while, though, and that's not a bad thing.

It's been so long since I've felt anything new about a Drive-By Truckers album that I think I must be doing something wrong.

My jury duty check went towards these things:

The Method Actors - This Is Still It: The Early Recordings

Alela Diane - To Be Still  /  Charlotte Gainsbourg - IRM

I almost pulled the trigger on the new She & Him LP--it's a great-looking record, I enjoyed the last one, and it was only $10. I held off, though, and now that I'm listening to some tracks from it, I might be happy with that decision.

Well, I think her voice is sorta cute. It's fucking M. Ward that just bores my damn balls off.

I tried to get into that Charlotte Gainsbourg album, and I just couldn't do it; nothing actively irritates me about it, but it just doesn't stick. I've played it on the subway, while making breakfast, and during amorous escapades, and I can't remember a thing about it. I wanted to like it, but I give up.

If it had come out last year, I probably would've ignored it entirely. This year, it's on the all-star team.

Serena-Maneesh - No. 2: Abyss in B Minor

That black label you see is a sticker that wraps around the top and down the back, which wouldn't be an issue if it were, say, on the shrinkwrap and not attached to the digipak itself. It's almost as if this is 4AD's way of taunting those who still opt to buy the CD version of anything.

Aren't you supposed to cut the seal with a blade, like with LPs of old?

Perhaps, but for aesthetic purposes I felt compelled to peel the whole thing off. Which I was able to do successfully without tearing anything, though the further from release date it gets the more difficult such a task becomes.

Hip vinyl LP trick for breaking the seal:  put the side of the jacket with the opening on your jeans, rub vigorously side-to-side.
