Is it anything more than a Google approach to Facebook?

Not really. But Facebook is far from perfect, and I'm willing to give Google's model a shot. Especially since it's sitting right there in a window I always have open, anyway.

Facebook infuriates me constantly, although the user-interface/features are only half of that. Google tends to be pretty good at making things less infuriating so maybe I oughta give it a try.

Is it more Facebooky than Twittery? I took half a look at it and assumed it was Google Twitter.

Just added buzz (although I tried adding you, and it didn't find you). Not sure if I'll use it given that I don't really use my twitter acct even right now, but we'll see. Seems much more like Twitter to me.

Also, it seems like you can link it to your Twitter account if you want.

Yeah it's actually a lot more reminiscent of Brizzly, an alternative Twitter front end, than it is Facebook. Still: convenience!

Are the people really clamoring for more social networking platforms?

Although I've been disillusioned/bored with Facebook for at least a couple years now, and I'd probably be all about Buzz should it prove itself less retarded

I just fired it up and got a couple of confused grunts from friends and a load of Zach's tweets! Which was nice, because I always forget to look at Twitter.

This may be pure coincidence, but has Gmail gotten slower, more unresponsive and generally buggy for anyone else in the past week?

do we really need another way in which to keep up with the tedious lives of people we don't really care about?

I'm just curious how it's meaningfully different from FB or Twitter

Because it's in your Gmail! I dunno, personally I don't think of Twitter and FB as the pinnacle of social media innovation. I'm interested to see how things develop.

does it do things in addition to Twitter?  I don't use twitter, and I forward my gmail, though I do use the Google interface for the RSS reader.  if it does new things beyond what Twitter does I might be interested.

Yeah, I never go to gmail.com either. Hell, I never go to twitter.com either. I tend to get all of my services aggregated into one of only a couple clients. So Buzz seems like a neat aggregator that lives in gmail.com, but that in and of itself is of limited utility to me.

I hate hate hate email clients and never use them, so I've perpetually got Gmail.com open. That in itself makes Buzz sort of attractive to me.

I don't really know what is going on but I at least followed you and coldforge.  I'm at my usual email address.

Why do you hate email clients? They're just like Gmail except they've got badge icons and buttons that work right.

I get all the notifications I need via my phone and the Gmail notifier, though. I've never used an email client that did all of the things Gmail does, as well as Gmail does, especially not searches. And it seems redundant to have a completely separate application just for email.

Well I think all this bee stuff has pretty much validated its existence. Great job, everyone.
