What happened to Go! Rehearsal Room ?
and why are all of our good venues closing etc.
1. go!
2. ps211 (it's becoming the wherehouse again, which means a show every other month)
3. gatecitynoise is charging for shows

I am going to miss the hell out of Go!. I think they probably over-extended themselves and tried to do too much, consequently they put on a lot of shows that were not at all profitable for them.
Gate City Noise on the other hand is turning itself into a bona fide venue in addition to record store, and needs to charge for shows in order to stay afloat. That makes sense, and I hope they do well.

it closes this saturday with the a.c newman show.
the problem with gatecitynoise going towards a real venue, is that they don't the quality of shows (as they used to) or as other venues would. also they haven't updated their sound or anything(as far as i know) so you really are paying for an in-store. i think it might have been more benefitical to get together with the ace's basement or werehouse people and do shows together.

I was at GCN on Saturday, they're putting in a DJ booth/soundbooth and getting a whole new sound system/PA. Also they're redoing the back so that there'll be a backstage and it looked like the stage was new too (not sure about that).

Also, our best independent/foreign film theater (madstone in cary) recently closed (like a month and a half ago). It's been a sad couple of months. Funny thing about these two occurences, is that after going to the madstone for the first time (now that I'm at school here in raleigh), then a few months later it closes down. I've also only been to GO! one time (to see tMG in april) and now it's closing. Makes me feel like a bringer of death to that which should never die.

oh man. nice.
i was really upset about madstone closing, but i think all the madstone's but one closed. the carolina theatre in greensboro has been showing some really amazing stuff, both old and new the past few weeks. coming up: Life of Brian, Streetcar Named Desire etc

actually it looks like the werehouse is still getting some cool stuff. Like wolf eyes! wheee! And I mean, it's still a really cool venue, even though nobody ever shows up to the shows there.

our madstone closed out in arizona a couple of months ago. do you know if it was a chainwide closing or just two that both happened to run into bad luck?

The madstone website no longer exists. Also, looking at " More results from
www.madstonetheaters.com
" it looks like every location closed down. :-/
