Tell me about Facebook?

I'm getting to the point where I'm running out of people I know. I've tried to friend everyone I could reasonably have met in grad school (which is why I got on Facebook in the first place... the place pays for itself in a huge, strong network) and the few people I still keep up with from college. I think I'm friends with pretty much everyone here, if not, leverage the FOAF. I'm not that hard to find, what with my new avatar.

just got a friend req from somebody on fb, mutual friends tells me it must be one of you guys so I went ahead and accepted which is weird, since half the time I'll ignore friend reqs from people I actually know in real life

On facebook when I add people I add them to a group, I'm lazy though and most people tend to go to either "Toronto" "Regina" some small things to do with other stuff and "Internet".

Oh I thought the biggest group would be internet but apparently its not.  Which is weird seeing as a lot of the people I know are people I met through internet groups.

I've finally begun exploring the world of multiple privacy settings, and I think I've got a nice "professional" setting crafted, whereby people can't see my wall or pictures of me getting tattoos or really anything at all, except my friends list. I don't want them to see that, either; is there a way to make it disappear for the setting? I can't find find an option for that anywhere.

facebook is a worldwide my space for chatting and communicating with friends and family around the world it is like msn(windows live messenger) except that has been running for 9 years so far an extremely well known well used way of communication that does not charge if facebook start to charge from only 3 years of being created could be the collapse of facebook

which reminds me, nobody ever answered my two-posts-up question about hiding my friendlist; I spent all this time setting up my "professional" category, then when I finally friended back two people from that world, I immediately said "oh, fuck it" and gave them full access. what the fuck ever, I don't care; I barely even swear on FB, much less post about matters tawdry, so I don't care if they can see pictures of me getting tattooed or standing in front of a urinal.

I'm not getting all RTFM on you or anything but Facebook's Help Center is usually actually helpful! Since overhauling the privacy thing entirely a few months ago, the explanations of what you can do are really quite thorough. It's just hard to find the link to the section because of the stupid auto-scroll thing, but if you manage to get to the bottom of the news feed page, it's on the right.

oh, thanks, I'd never noticed that, and not for lack of effort looking. at this point I've shrugged off security concerns, but when I take my new job in the fall I'll probably get paranoid again, so that'll come in handy.

Ugh, just went in to make my friend info private and all this shit was public that I had previously locked up. WTF? Do they just reset everything to public once every so often?

That's weird 'cos when the last "ZOMG facebook is stealing all your privacy and sellling it to fuck knows who!!!" meme went around last week, I went to uncheck the requisiste box, and it was already unchecked (and all my privacy setteings were as I had left them)

Okay, just to be sure: if I switch "search for me on FB" to friends-only (under Privacy Settings-->Basic Directory Information), does that mean I won't pop up as a recommended friend under those suggested-friends it puts on the righthand side of people's news feeds? Are there any other measures I can take to preclude popping up that way?

My new boss just popped up as a suggestion, and I believe that means I have entered the new-job-privacy-lockdown era.

so now fb is publishing everyone's phone number?  I looked under the "phonebook" tab of the account settings-friends section and saw pretty much everyone on my friends list's phone number.  Is this just if you have it displayed on your profile or do they post it if you use facebook from your lol smartphone sometimes?
