Man, I'd like to know the origins of how that town name came about.

That is awesome
Conceptually related, the village of Intercourse is just a bit south of a town called Blue Ball in Pennsylvania.

Got to meet Mike Ouweleen, creator of Harvey Birdman today at Cartoon Network HQ.  He was, not surprisingly, an awesome guy.

For my birthday, the boy got me a necklace that my friend made. I'd commented on a picture of it on facebook, saying that I loved it, and when I next talked to my friend about it, he said it had been sold. Turns out it was sold to my boyfriend! For my birthday!

Nope, it doesn't move, but he's made other pieces that do. He does lots of really interesting stuff. Last year he made quite a few pieces similar to the necklace I have, and I love all of them.

I like this one, too:

He just started an Etsy store. I want to buy so much of his stuff. It's really rare (and I mean REALLY rare) that I like jewelry this much -- I almost never wear jewelry at all, and find most of it distasteful or not fitting for my style. I'm not into all of his stuff, but these pieces with the tiny circles and squares? So much love.

He loves tube cutting jigs! I'm with you on loving piles of shapes. They're really neat.

Went out for a friend's birthday last night--he'd signed up for a night of Whirlyball.  I'd never played before and it is indeed the sport of kings and drunks.  I even actually managed to score the winning point in the last game.  Go me!

Super Grover is the best. Finn & I had a good morning, too--Tom & Jerry, "Donut Place," flip-flop shopping, and a visit to Barnes & Noble where Finn picked out The Little Prince (yessss).

I love Super Grover. I love Grover. I was saddened, a bit, when the toddler-speak Elmo took over Grover's position as Cutest Monster. Near, Far forever.

I've been watching SS on YouTube (as my fb friends will know). Occasionally E will see one in the menu with Elmo and request it, but I always say "no". I am a bad mother. His fave right now is Cookie Monster, followed by "crumpet frog". I love YouTube.  Actually while I think of it, do any of you remember the one where Cookie goes into cookie withdrawal - gets the shakes and says "me go crazy. Me go crazy" it also had a Henson muppet in it but I can't remember if it was Ernie or Kermit.

It's been said before but it's worth repeating: the Borders Reward card is awesome. Pretty much all summer long, my email account has contained at least one valid 30%-off coupon. Two days ago, I got a 40%-off coupon, which I am going to use today to buy the new edition of Sirens of Titan.

As a marketing strategy, it has been successful. I've been buying more books than CDs this summer! Unprecedented!

Having worked at Borders, I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, it can save regular shoppers quite a bit, but on the other hand, 40% off at Borders is about regular price on Amazon. For DVDs, 40% off the Borders price is still more expensive than Amazon. Also, it leads to all sorts of crooked dealings with customers. Someone asks if we have any coupons. Maybe they say they forgot to check their e-mail. Employees are told to lie to these people or risk getting fired.

Also, it goes without saying that the primary reason for trying to sign as many people up for Borders Rewards card as possible is so that Borders can flood their inboxes with thrice-weekly advertisements. It made me a little sick every time I gave someone a BR card knowing that I was serving as a cog in a corporate marketing campaign.

And they would have to give out 80% off coupons for me to start buying at Borders instead of the excellent used book store across the street. For the kind of stuff I'm usually looking for, used book stores have much better selection than Borders too.
