On Saturday I picked up my pig and yesterday we cut parts of it into smaller parts of it and tomorrow we make a prosciutto and April 20th, 2011 we eat the prosciutto.

Sweet! The only way your day could get better is if you were to see a skateboarding English Bulldog

The bit with the skateboard-mounted camera is my favorite!

My little mouse has the very beginnings of her first tooth! Man, what a good baby. I expected her to be a total howling mess, but it really wasn't too bad.

Dear speed cameras,

I do not have a front license plate. You can straight up suck my Dick. I realize that you are a camera and do not have a mouth, but I'd still appreciate the chance to prod your lens with my throbbig, driving 80 in a 55 Wang

It involved six hours on trains, sitting around an airport for six hours, my dad driving way too slow, and being awake for 24 hours straight, but WE GOT HOME LAST NIGHT.

If I had to outline my idea of the perfect day, it would look pretty close to today:

9:30am: wake up naked in arms of person I adore, stay there in various groggy configurations amorous and otherwise for long time
11: go downstairs for coffee, return to bed for more of same
1pm: get dressed, hang with M's roommates, head uptown, part ways: M to wedding, me strolling 20 blocks to used bookstore for Samuel Delany books for SF-loving friend's birthday tomorrow
4: finally home, cook breakfast
5: head up to Fishtown park for Shad Fest, socialize with former student and then friend of M's [small stuff but important in re: finally coming around to recognize the value of casual hanging with people after several years of intense reclusion and mostly avoiding these kinds of interactions]
6:30: looooooong circuitous walk around North Philadelphia, pleasurable meandering through previously uncharted-by-me terrain; then train to Chinatown for banh mi
7: eat sandwich, catch up on news, post online
rest of night: chillin' solo, go out for groceries, maybe movies by Pedro Costa/Sam Fuller/Claude Jutra/Tsai Ming-liang

Like, there's absolutely nothing particularly spectacular or noteworthy there, but the way it all comes together is profoundly satisfying in a way that the rollercoaster rush of "big" days can rarely be. I almost never think about What I Want Out of Life or the other big questions, but were I to do so, I think it would basically be this.

Oh man, our Sunday afternoon ballgame today was so great. Totally heartbreaking for my team, but had I not been playing I'd have been willing to pay admission to see a game like that. It was a really tight game, back and forth, and at the end of the 9th it was tied at 5, so we went into extra frames. No score in the 10th, and then suddenly in the top of the 11th our bats came alive. We rallied for 9 runs to take a pretty solid lead. All we had to do was shut them down in the bottom of the inning... which we didn't. Our pitching fell apart and we walked in a bunch of runs, and then an infield error led to 2 more. We were holding on for dear life, there were 2 outs, we're up by a single precious run, men on 2nd and 3rd. Batter stepped up and jacked one to the left field corner, over my head. I ran it down, turned and fired it back to the infield, but it was too late. With 2 outs the runners were going as soon as the bat left his shoulder and there was no chance at gunning them down with a head start like that. Totally crushing, but from an objective standpoint holy crap what a game.
And then we grilled a bunch of stuff and it was awesome.

I am RESOLVED to get my shit together in time for the softball league registration deadline next year. I always think about it a month after it's too late.

Why wait until next year? It's only April. You don't even need a league, just a bunch of folks who wanna play ball, a bat, a couple gloves, and an open field.

Jobs, kids, school, etc. Too much trouble to get that many people together if they haven't already set aside the time. When you sign up for a league, you pay a little money, you get a set schedule, you agree to meet at certain times and places.

Shouldn't be that way and I wish it wasn't, but right now, in my circle of friends (and me included), it is that way.

I shot a double session today with two amazingly talented bands. Like, they were so good that I'm a little worried things won't turn out. I'm sure everything will be fine, but y'know, anxiety of the potential. If everything works out amazing, I might get some work doing video for one of them. Plus, I scored a free record and got to hear some amazing stories about being on tour with David Yow. Involving whiskey and having a collapsed lung for like... weeks.
