Yay dbd! pugs are excellent. A friend used to have one (in minneapolis) but someone stole her and won't give her back...which is kind of weird.
in my experience, this happens to cats all the time

maybe not dogs because of the loyalty thing though

If anyone stole my cats, I'd stage a daring daylight ninja raid and probably burn down their house in retribution.

me, too.

do you guys know about puppiesbehindbars.com?  a cool program all around, and you can volunteer to take a puppy on a field trip once a month.  if I had more free time and no cats, I would totally puppy sit.

She should be careful about that, she could get fired if she's caught sleeping on the clock.

No one has ever kidnapped my cats. But my aunt sort of accidently stole the neighbour's daughter's cat because the daughter was away at college and my aunt had a cat door and the neighbour's son was always at her house.  So really it was more that the cat adopted my aunt.

no...? (please do)

Someone stole my childhood Burmese cat, or at least that was our assumption - he was young, healthy, exceptionally friendly, we lived on a quiet street, he didn't wander usually, and he just didn't come home for dinner one night...

My friend's pug was stolen by the stoners across the alley who took her (the dog) on a long road trip. My friend finally got her back, and then she disappeared again, but has been seen somewhere in the Uptown neighbourhood, so whether she was stolen or found remains to be seen, but my friend did all the things you do when your dog goes missing (both times) to no avail.

Earlier today, it was pointed out to me that my parents have a tendency to name their pets after food.  They had a dog named Loukaniko before I was born, our family housecat was named Quesadilla, and their two current cats are named Brie and Islay.

So I was thinking about what I would name my cats if I had to name them after foodstuffs I like.  I think Caliban would be Mayonnaise Cat and Thunder would be Tempeh.

Heh. People already think (mishear) Kovu's name is Tofu. My mum's dog is called Honey.

Pigeon would be Pork Bun and Digby would be Artichoke.

I was the previous petmom to a cat named Cheese and two dwarf hamsters named Dosa and Roti.

If Linus was named for food he would be Vanilla Pudding or Pimiento Loaf, and Hugo would maybe be Pork Chop like Doug's dog.

So, hey, apropos!  My dog originally had the name Odie, which, no.  Those fucking kids saw the Bill Murray Garfield and named him accordingly.  From there it was a long, downhill slide toward giving him up.

So we named him Taco.  It's funny, it's short, and it has two, distinct, hard consonants, which make it good for calling him/getting his attention.

Taco listening to "Shine Blockas":

Taco listening to Joanna Newsom:

Taco being read to from "A Game of Thrones":

You may have noticed that he likes that chair.

This kitty is always in the window of the converted storefront two buildings down:

Wow, that was something I managed to forget about entirely!

Also, blucas, your dog is adorable.

Also, windowcat is grizzled and scowling.  He's like the old man who sits on his porch and looks on with disdain as the kids walk by on their way to school, all stinkeye and jaundice.

I like how it looks like that cat is competely ready to fold its legs back into a streamlined tube and shoot out of the window like a cannonball!

the cats have various strategies for dealing with the heat:

I gave them a bath, sort of.  I think I got more wet than they did.  they were not best pleased, and spent a long time drying off.

but they came out looking even more dapper than usual:

Have I mentioned how much I love your cats, milesofsparks?

What is the thing Mojo is hiding in in the first picture - a huge vase or something?

yes, it used to have an enormous papyrus in it--like 7 feet tall--that grew from a sprout stolen from the Frick Museum, but it was too tantalizing for the cats and they batted at it and dug up the mud until it was dead.  one of the few cat casualties I'm sad about, but they do like playing in the huge pot.

and now I totally want to make pet school portraits...
