ha, well, that would last about .2 seconds.  not long enough for me to get the camera.

I got the kitties a fancy, slightly overpriced toy this morning when I went to get them more food--it's an adorable fuzzy bird, with real feathers for a tail, and it squeaks realistically when you tap it.  oh MAN they love it.  I feel a little bad watching the very cute baby bird get batted all around the house though, with it's sad 'chirp, chirp, chirp!'

For the last couple weeks we've been using a little spray bottle to deter the kitties* from jumping places they're not supposed to. Just long enough that Bowler Cat can recognize the thing when I pick it up and dash away before I squirt her. Today we came back from the grocery store to find the spray handle of the bottle sitting in the middle of the floor, like a horse's head. After a couple minutes of searching we found that they had stowed the bottle (and its little pool of water) in the kittie fort we built out of Freshdirect boxes.

We still don't know what they did with the straw that connects the bottle and the spray apparatus. We've looked through the whole house. The cats have disabled our defensive measures. I might not be able to maintain contact for much longer. If you lose the transmission, do not send more men. The kittens will be waiting.

*To be honest, that only works on Bowler Cat. Potato is a little too slow, so you just spray him and he stands there with a splotch on his side, looking at you and being confused about why he's suddenly wet. Then you just pick him up and put him down.

Man, that sounds dire. Sounds like conventional forces are insufficient for the job. The situation calls for anti-insurgency tactics/pacification programs. Clear and hold, clear and hold.

Salem loves tuna (and salmon...she's on a fishy diet because she's allergic to chicken and beef...i let her lick the remains of my tuna and salmon pouches when I have them)

She gets very docile when she's sleepy

Maybe! I thought you mentioned him on the boards recently, and at the bar last week, and there again. But then maybe not!

Anyway, Rizzle will not stay out of the fridge.

Finally came up with a new name for the kitty. It is Crimbo. This comes from a joke my ladyfriend and I have. See, it started with her telling me that AMC rejected the script she wrote for an episode of Breaking Bad, in which Combo and his two brothers, Crumbo and Crimbo, take Walt, Jr. to an amusement park. From there, we decided that Crimbo was a breakout success and had been given his own spinoff, his likeness appearing on t-shirts and trapper keepers and action figures. Crimbo, who was somehow able to travel through time, was also the impetus behind the ill-conceived Breaking Bad/Mad Men crossover episode.

Anyway, we named the cat after a silly inside joke.

That's a great name.  It's like Kitty/Criminy/Rambo.

Silly inside jokes are a good thing to name a cat after. Though I'm glad that for Hoshi we went for Hoshi and not "Halfprice" and for Tiger, even though it is a total six year old name for a cat, that we went with Tiger and not "Lamont" (family joke of 20 years now).

I taught one of my ferrets to roll over, and he ended up using it as a "pleeeease?" action rather than a party trick. During his first two summers he would roll over every time someone opened the freezer, to ask you to pick him up and hold him in front of the open door for a few seconds. (I froze a bottle of water and wrapped it in a towel for him to sleep on; he liked that.)
