Is it ok to make a new thread? Old one was at twenty.
I don't post in earbuds much at the moment, because of school and work pressures I don't listen to anything new that much, don't go to heaps of gigs any more etc. However, it rare for me to be so incredibly excited about a gig coming up, just as it is rare for one of my alltime heroes to be coming to my city!
WANDA JACKSON!
And the night she's playing also happens to be the day that my last assignment for the term will be handed in! What a marvellous way to celebrate.

Just bought tickets to see Cap'n Jazz in DC. Totally expecting to be underwhelmed. Don't care. Saw Braid's reunion tour and thought I'd make it a pair.

Really looking forward to seeing This Will Destroy You and The Life And Times beginning of next month.  As an added bonus, I get be really happy for/incredibly jealous of our friends It's Elephant's who are opening.

I was going to ask what I should get first as lead up to seeing Swans in October (I've seen Angels of Light and Gira solo, but I don't know the Swans stuff at all), but then I figured I'd also check out Rate Your Music. Looks like their stuff ranges from very good to awesome, so I guess I can pretty much start anywhere.

Looks like next weekend I may be in full-on Nick Ink show mode. I already have a ticket to see William Basinski on Saturday, and now I just discovered that Emeralds are playing on Friday.

Doesn't sound bad! Since gig season ends early here and I don't like festivals much, my next scheduled show is only in September, but it's a promising one - Alva Noto + Blixa Bargeld.

Incidentally, shouldn't Mr Ink have an internet connection again by now?

I was thinking the same thing.

Toronto is really bad for indie pop rocks festivals, in that there aren't many, and they have, like, 1/5 the cool band count of any other city this size. On the up side, the non-festival shows don't slow down all that much.

We do, however, have tons of free music things going on all summer, mostly cultural celebrations of this and that. Which is probably more fun.

Vampire Weekend are playing the big outdoor venue in town that consistently hosts the dinosaurs every summer (this summer featuring evenings with Iron Maiden, Kiss, Jethro Tull, Steve Miller...) and are charging $50 a pop.

This seems like an odd state of affairs to me.

just bought tickets for the Belle and Sebastian show in Boston this October, via pre-sale.  it would have been nice if the B&S-sourced email w/ the password for presale didn't arrive 90 min after the tickets went on sale...

Bah, no Wanda Jackson for me, all sold out. GRAAAAH. I'll have to shimmy up to the balcony and get in that way.

Ted Leo tomorrow night.  FINALLY.  I've tried to see him three times but missed him for various reasons every time.

I once went to see him play in New York City but then there was a blackout enveloping the northeast for many hours. So we thought the show must necessarily be canceled and we just started walking north, away from him, in this desperate and weird city all day eating free ice cream and hoping we might find a way home or at least a place to sleep. But it turns out he played a great acoustic set in spite of everything. Oops!

It was awesome.  Also he was touring with Screaming Females, who are fucking great.  Amazing show.

He's here next Saturday. I'm glad you posted, because I thought it was next month and I might have missed him. Been a while since I saw him in a good way. He did an outdoor show here last summer but it basically rained out (and by "rain" I mean storm). I think he got a song or two out, but even that was against inclement weather. I turned up for it, but we ran to the bar cover really soon after he hit the stage.

I'm sorry, Erykah Badu, but I am not going to pay $61 to see you. I think you are awesome, but probably like $25 worth of awesome. Maybe next time.

hey, are any NYC-area people looking to attend either or both of the Big Takeover 30th anniversary shows next weekend? I'll be there both nights.

Ha, I just did a quick MySpace check on some of the better local bands and now my next couple weeks are much more full than they were. Blood Ceremony tonight - I was planning on staying in but I think I'll hit them up as they are way fun. One Hundred Dollars - who, seriously, davy and whoever else has a country bone in their body ought to check out - next Thursday. I haven't actually seen them live but their album Forest of Tears is sooo the best thing I've heard in a long while. And a triple bill of local acousticky indie folks, Wilderness of Manitoba/Entire Cities/Weather Station the week after. Much fun for me.

It is suddenly very possible that we are going to go on a metal cruise. It's expensive but almost too strange and awesome to pass up.

I was going to some here condescendingly and tell you that a cruise couldn't possibly be metal... but I recant. Death Angel? Marduk? Obituary? Testament? That there is a metal cruise.

Marduk on a boat?

A U-boat, maybe. But a boat boat?

I dunno. Mayan ruins are pretty metal.

At least it's not Key West.

Offhand I don't find the Caribbean particularly metal, but its history of piracy begs to differ, perhaps.

We had already planned on going to Florida in January because I am one of those people and want to go to the Harry Potter thing at Universal, so Bill was thinking we could just do that for a couple days and then go on this totally bizarre cruise.

I'm taking Finn to Disney World in October. The whole family is making the trip--my parents, my grandmother, my sister's family--because we are those people, too!
