Thanks!  As I was trying to think of a sentence for each, it occurred to me how many of those movies can't really be summed up easily.  The Big Lebowski was sort of a stumper.

You pay a monthly fee -- in my case, $12 per month, for the blu-ray-friendly option -- and they send you a DVD in the mail.  You can watch it at your leisure, then send it back using the included self-addressed stamped envelope.  Then, they send you the next DVD in your queue.  But!  In addition to the physical DVDs, you can watch as much as you want of their "instant" selections, which are all available streaming online.  You can do that through the computer, or through a Wii, or through any device that comes with the Netflix software; my DVD player does, so I can turn it on and watch any of the Instant movies on my TV.  It's great!

I have not seen one mention of the fact that they have "Krull" available to watch instantly...I'm a little disappointed in you dudes.

We watched Capturing the Friedmans last night on Instant. Not quite sure I've sorted out my thoughts about it, or that it even warrants a sorting out, but it was fairly compelling.

A friend of mine from college is in that...if I recall correctly he's one of the less damning interviews.

Guess it's not worth mentioning that they've got "Zardoz" too, then

Pretty excited about this new addition, though:

From Fred Olen Ray, the genius that brought us Star Slammer! (A dudes' night favorite around these parts.)

i'm still here - i liked it. i liked it because the spacehog dude shit on his head. hey. people like shit for weirder reasons. i like it when someone shits on someone's head.

happiness runs - this is a weird explicit sex-drama about growing up in a commune. it's quite complex subject matter and kinda shocking.

the ghost and the darkness - lions are scary. so is val kilmer.

red riding 1974, 1980, 1983 - this is police corruption surrounding the yorkshire ripper case in a trilogy, beautifully done, frankly, quite damaging to the soul to watch.

gamer - this is like watching a celluloid tribal tattoo. it's ha ha.

centurion - a big dumb b movie by the guy who directed uh, doomsday and that werewolf film, that's kinda a cult classic. totally worth it.

exit through the gift shop - christine mcallister said this was tasty.

night of the demons - solid remake of a solidly b movie horror thing. graphic!

the extra man - tonally vague, bizarrely watchable

lord of illusions - this is just great. i always loved this.

the quick and the dead - raimi/western YES

slc punk - my favorite movie having to deal, in some fashion, dependent on, music.

I always thought The Quick & The Dead was pretty solid.

dude I think maybe you just want to see Sean Connery all half-naked and hairy.  And that's not wrong.  It's a little weird but it's not wrong.

It's more a matter (well, I tell myself it's more a matter) of the fact that there is so much crazy in that movie that one watching isn't enough to capture it all. I mean, I just did a GIS on 'Zardoz', and here's a few pictures of scenes I had forgotten, despite the fact that they are completely bananas.

Every time I get this nagging urge, I ask myself: "why the hell do you want to absorb more incoherent mess in your life?!" I can't answer that question, and yet... and yet... Homo Eternalis calls me...

OH GOD THERE'S THIS AS WELL

http://www.badmovies.org/multimedia/moviesv/zardoz1.mpg

The thing is, this movie is terrible and tedious -- it's not an enjoyable trainwreck to watch, because it's too long and too slow. It is also painfully pretentious, inane and shallow, and it makes no sense. But still... I'm thinking of maybe having a few friends and a lot of liquor and watching this again...

So what does the fact that I own it say about me?

Black Dynamite is on Netflix Instant and you should watch it if you're interested in something that is both a spoof of and an homage to blaxploitation movies from the 70s.  I thought it was pretty hilarious.  The only review I found of it on this site was some dude I didn't recognize called Snarfyguy who seemed to not like it.  well fuck him anyway.

Yeah, I remembered reading his review post and being all uh ok I guess you don't enjoy good things then.

I've been resistant to Black Dynamite because I'm not a big fan of those throwback-style movies, but I guess that's not even really true because I liked Grindhouse and even Undercover Brother, so maybe I should give it a try.

I liked Snarfyguy though, too bad he bailed.

me too!

I will say that it takes a turn in the middle, and the second "half" isn't quite what the first half is, but there's a lot to appreciate there.
