Matt Sweeney & Bonnie "Prince" Billy: Must Be Blind

This is not "pretty", this is fucking HOT. Like, I might have to go lie down.

I know, I'm weird. But seriously, you guys.

I tried to this morning. I could only get through three songs before I had to put on something less terrible instead.

word. I think the only reason I listened to this is that it's a free download and I don't do illegal downloads anymore now that I mostly work on a job-provided laptop but had to feed my procrastination-monkey somehow; my only real response was "huh, guess that How to Dress Well band isn't so bad after all, comparatively speaking."

edited to add: my other takeaway was "we're decadent. did we mentioned how decadent we are? here's another song about our decadence." I dunno; if you're gonna devote yourself to coke-fueled anonymous sex, like, enjoy yourself a little more, geez.

I had the exact same experience with this as ella.

Morbid Angel: "Nevermore"

Which is the new single. Unfortunately the album proper has the worst sleeve possible:

Yeah, really weird, turned on by a close-up of a woman's crotch.

That's not the weird thing. The horse kicking up dirt is the turn-on, here.

Yeah I'd also very much like to hear that. I haven't really been keeping up with Oldham the last couple of years.

That's okay. It's been a pretty discouraging exercise.

I wouldn't go that far, but yeah, it hasn't been aces. I just got that recent 10" he did as a fundraiser for Haitian aid efforts, and it's neither bad nor particularly good, which I guess sums up the past couple years more or less.

the front cover art, btw, probably isn't thread-worthy, but the shot on the back is beautiful.

ah, here--7:30 Saturday night and my lady has passed out after being sick for the past 24 hours, so why not dig around the interwebz for a few minutes in search of a back cover image?

see if this works--

and by "beautiful," I meant compositionally/aesthetically, of course--this is absolutely heartbreaking.

Aside from being, like, totally stoked for the album, this cover makes me want to get it on vinyl...

Yes, that is very nice. Word on the vine is that it's not as good as the first one though.

These are out. Mine arrived today but I've been in the sick bed so unable to listen.

Bah, between this and an email from SubPop (send to pre-orderers) stating that they are "hopeful, bordering upon confident, even, that [ I ] have received and [am] enjoying the new Low album" just a few minutes ago, I feel like my mail from the US is taking a bit too long these days! Just impatient, I know.

(I am particularly impatient about the other item in my Drag City preorder, to be honest, which is the Bill Callahan record)

Get well soon, Johnp.
