Thread title makes it sound like we're making toilets. That's ... unfortunate.

Things I have learned recently:

1. Prints can be directional (and thus can be mistakenly cut upside down) even when parts of it have text that run sideways:

2. Gauge matters -- these are on size 3 needles:

and the same pattern on size 0 needles:

3. Ceramic buttons are awesome:

4. Adding length to trousers ain't no thang:

February was a good month for crafting.

Oh, Bernard. All of these: I AM DEAD. The cooooooats. Clay buttons are great. I also like dichroic glass buttons, if you're into the crazy iridescent shiny things.

I finished the stitching on the first OSU square and OHHHHHH SO BORING so I'm going to wait to sew the next one (I have it fused).

So tonight? More animal embroidery.

That is so unbelievably awesome, and I have to know if it is at all possible for me to buy it off you. I have a friend who will LITERALLY PEE HIMSELF with amazement and delight.

I do also like dichroic glass buttons! I was falling down the button-themed rabbithole and I looked up and saw it was past midnight and I was just starting to google 'czech glass buttons' and I had to slap myself.

That jacket (in 1.) is the business, B; can you tell us a little more about it?  I take it from the still-visible pins that you did it up from naught?  Or did you just re-line it with that print, or mess with the collar?  Either way, there's a lot of rad seams in there.  Awesome.

Hmm, where'd my comment go? I was ruminating that it might be the not-so-tiny jacket made for HT, and that it is great. Now I have this to say:

I've seen recipes for using Kool-Aid to dye stuff, but never tried it beyond my hair in 8th grade.

The Dharma site has an excellent link to a "dyeing with kool aid" blog entry. I dyed some silk scarves with food colouring (using vinegar to fix it) which i think I posted pics of before... It hadn't occurred to me to use it on hair. We were all about Dylon hot fabric dye for the bright colours (#1986)...

The last time I went to a quilt show, there was a vintage/antique vendor that was selling all kinds of buttons and scarves and tablecloths and it was THE WORST, except that my mom was there too and bought me like $30 worth of buttons, including a set of enormous pink ones I have yet to put on anything.

I think it's an old company like RIT or somebody who's recently had a makeover for their packaging. It shows a single bright swirl of color against a white backdrop, as though they set a big glass of water in front of a white wall and poured in dye, like pouring cream into coffee. That type of liquid swirl, you know? It just makes the whole thing look so delicious and attractive.

The coat is from this pattern: https://oliverands.com/patterns/skirts/patterns5.phtml

And is more or less my attempt to copy this coat: http://www.flickr.com/photos/48329342@N06/4881668497/in/photostream/

That lady right there can sew and bake like you would not believe. I have pretty much completely changed the way I sew because of her. However, I am still a beginner, so I am making lots of mistakes, like making my version from a material that doesn't drape well in such short lengths. Ah well, live and learn.

Everything in this thread is awesome, but I'm mostly jealous of the ability to make socks. One day, I'm going to learn how to do socks like I'd been meaning to for years, I swear. Probably when I'm 68.

I made one sock once, with scrap yarn, just to practice.  It's really not that tough.

Yeah, socks aren't that hard. It's getting them to be exactly what you want in terms of fit, stitch pattern, and yarn. You should try it, alex! We can do a knit-along.

I started an axolotl, but I can't decide if he should have something in his little hands.

cat's cradle?  are you machine stitching such a teeny thing, or is that hand sewn?  whichever, it's cool!

That reminds me of my mom conning me, my brother, our friends, or my dad into modeling shit for photos on eBay.

It's machine stitched, yeah. Its tininess prevents too much detail so it's hard to choose. Or maybe I'll leave it and just fill in the body.

Did I ever tell you guys about my new passion for double sided knitting?  I made one scarf that's houndstooth on one side and vertical striped on the other.  I'm working on one now (not right now, but I'll start again when I get home) that's different sized rectangles on one side and horizontal stripes on the other.  I've got it pretty much figured out enough now that I think I could design my own pattern next.

Edit: first scarf
