Do you have to do the "I wore these for six months every day without washing them!" thing?
The reason that people do that is to keep the fades really high-contrast. The idea is to basically keep as much indigo in the jean as possible, so that the areas where it creases and fads really pop out. But the whole no-wash thing is pretty overblown, and you can wash them whenever you want. That said, I generally just hot-soak my shit, or wash it in the tub by itself, rather than throw it in with the rest of the wash.

Don't wash them until they're so rank they try to run away from you. Make two years unwashed your personal goal.

The far-out guys like to stick their jeans in the freezer to get out the stink, instead of washing them.

Doesn't that only work until they warm up again and whatever oils become more volatile again? I mean, maybe it would kill the bacteria and help a little bit that way, but I'd think most of the effects would be temporary.

The only, ah, far-out guy I've spoken to said he would spray the ass & crotchal area with Febreze prior to freezing. D:

Ewwww. Febreze grosses me out enough when it's used on furniture. On clothing that's just nasty, and I can't imagine those chemicals are good for you...

I've seen freezing advice for stinky shoes.  The idea is that the stink comes from little bacteria that feast on fresh and dried sweat and the stink is a byproduct of their meal... so you freeze them and they die. The sweat is still there but the little bacteria farters are gone.

I wash my jeans all the time and after a couple years they get faded and trashed and I buy new ones.

Hmm, maybe I will do an experiment and freeze only one shoe when I next have a pair that gets a little funky.

But then you'll have a half-stinkin' pair of shoes!

If so, then I can freeze the other one, but at least I can assess whether it really works or not and how well.

Does anyone spray their jeans down with rubbing alcohol? That's what I do to my running shoes when they start getting rank.  Then I leave 'em in the windowsill to dry out and let the UV sunlight finish the job.

On personal examination it appears to be not remarkably different from other wools of similar weight. Perhaps the weave is a little tighter, creating a denser fabric, and the black and white are a little softer. By comparison, an unbranded and similar wool (the one they have is a b/w herringbone) is a trifle garish. Maybe if I find one of the patterns I have really cries out for it.
The deal with Harris tweed is the natural dyes, made from lichens and mosses endemic to the islands they're from, which are supposed to have pleasing qualities. The colours used to be very distinctive, up until everybody started imitating its tans, browns, ochres and soft greens. The wool is, as far as I know, just wool (though typically high-quality stuff).

This, incidentally, is why they don't wear deoderant in Antarctica.

In coldforge style news today, I had a minor triumph when I picked up a pair of Jil Sanders laceups I had bought on eBay. They retail for $440, so when I saw them at Buy It Now for $65 I clicked 'buy' pretty quicly, knowing that they ran large and hoping that the disparity between the indicated sz10 and my own size 10.5 would be adequate. Quickly after ordering I was told pretty unequivocally that they actually run much larger than one half size—usually somewhere on the order of 1.5 to 2 sizes (!). So I resigned myself to reselling and recouping my losses, which I didn't figure would be too hard at the price I paid.

So I had only been planning on having to put them right back up for sale when I picked them up at the post office. But when I got home I discovered that the seller had, accidentally or on purpose, sold them as 10s when they were actually marked as 9s! Which meant they fit perfectly! I hit them with some leather conditioner and got a nice shine on them. They're very handsome and I look forward to wearing them.

Ducks are kind of dumb and obnoxious anyway. Like geese and swans, they would totally fuck you up if they could, but they are too small. And they are very tasty. Mmmm ducks.

I like how jackets and blazers automatically make me look like I have my shit together. Structured clothing = deception.
