I came home drunk at 3am last night and made a snarky comment on someone's wall post. She's this girl from the dept that I barely know, and I think she took a bit of offense. I am still somewhat of a jerk, it would seem.

I like his podcast a lot--I think there's something about his terrible/uncomfortable "I'm such a mess!" schtick that makes his guests try to neutralize him by being candid themselves.  Of course, this means the interviews vary in quality depending on how interesting the person he's interviewing is, but a number of them are interesting and/or brutal in ways that celebrity interviews almost never are.  I mean... he often interviews the same people that Nerdist or Sound of Young America or whoever interview, and his are almost always more interesting.

My appraisal of this podcast can also be completely disregarded because I don't actively listen to it--it's just something I get subjected to a lot. There's not much I can imagine that would interest me less than listening to a standup comedian talk about his/her personal life.

Well, yeah, it's mostly good when the interviewee has either A) actually led an interesting life (like Carl LaBove or Mike DeStefano) or B) has a fucking batshit self-perception (like Dane Cook or Carlos Mencia)

The AC was out at my office until 2pm yesterday and appeared to not be working today, but I think it stuck in the low 80s, and I have a big fan in my office

Perfect for this thread--on a plane, sitting next to one of those guys who thinks his penis somehow entitles him to take the arm rest and spread his legs out into my space. Asshole. He's not even particularly big/tall--I'd understand it more if it were out of necessity.

Edit: right after I posted that the flight attendant announced there were open seats and now I've got a pair to myself toward the front if the plane (instead of being in the very last row). Annoyance gone!

No they just haven't made me turn off my phone yet. Also not the right thread for it but Memphis airport has some good BBQ that comes with amazing baked beans.

Edit: now I'm in front of a badly behaved little kid. Oh well.

oh my god I want to kill my horrible upstairs neighbors who play terrible music with the bass cranked up.  thump-thump-thump-thump-a-thump-thump...  I need to get things *done* today.  I don't have time for murder.

I would like to point out that the first suspect in any murder investigation, before the spouse, jilted lover, or butler, should be the downstairs neighbor. There is no greater murderous motive than to shut up those loud, inconsiderate cocksuckers who live above you.

On this tip, D is listening to the Poehler interview right now and she's had some pretty interesting things to say about starting out in the NYC club scene, starting the UCB, etc., and for every anecdote she has, Maron almost invariably goes "Oh yeah I remember that time I was a total dick to you" or "Yeah back then everyone said I'd never make it," etc., and it's just unbearable. He could probably be a half-decent interviewer if he weren't such a self-involved loser. Though I guess plenty of people dig the self-involved loser schtick, so, hey.

I had a surprise fever last night which sucked out all my energy. Now I just have chills and the aches, but super tired because the fever last night kept me from sleeping. Argh

Pollo, I am listening to that Poehler interview today. I honestly think you should just not ever listen to Marc Maron again. Your hatred of him warps what you hear.

If you want to live in a quiet place don't live in an urban apartment. Especially not in DC because these buildings are not sound insulated.

I live on the top floor and the only difference is that now, instead of worrying about the noise other people are making above me, I worry about the noise I'm making above somebody else.

My hatred of him made me mishear him turn the interview back to himself and the subject of his schlubbiness? Cuz I'm pretty sure I heard that a good bit. The non-Maron parts of the interview: fairly interesting. The bits wherein they rehash what petty rivalries he had with people twenty years ago, his lingering insecurities, why he never made it when all of these people he knows did, etc.--I just find that stuff makes for a terrible interview. Though I'm willing to acknowledge that if you're interested in him personally, it evidently doesn't.

Another thing that really bugs me about Maron's podcast is the self-congratulatory "I can't believe how much I help people out" hokum. Even if it's true, it rings *really* false.

It's actually something I've begun to force myself to be more heedful of, so that I can check myself--and I say that with all sincerity.

So my mom, who is about to turn 65, just bought a house with her boyfriend in North Carolina. Her health isn't great, mental or physical, and her boyfriend is a very very strange man. She seems happy about it, and is planning to move down there in august while he sells his house in PA.

Why am I annoyed? Because i HATE the idea of her being all the way down in North Carolina, losing her job, and not having any friends or anyone to come help her out next time she breaks an arm or has a breakdown. She lost her own house years and years ago, and has been living off of her boyfriends money for a while, so that is nothing new. But at least up here if they broke up, she'd have her three daughters pretty close! It seems irresponsible to me!

Not to mention that one of my sisters lives an hour away and my mom only went to her house once. ONCE. Until I have enough money to fly down there (which I won't for, say, the next two or three years), I don't think I'll really see her at all. ever. She's not in very good health, she can't really walk much anymore, and she refuses to listen to her doctors. I am parent-annoyed.

Well fuck, I got into a minor car accident.  I'm fine, the other person (and their giant SUV) is fine.  But they dented up my passenger door and busted in the window and now it's in the shop while they replace those things.

Blech.
