In honor of the current alcohol thread at 25 pagrs.

Beer of the month was cuvee de fluers by Southampton.

Absolutely delicious.  When I see a beer that says it is brewed with rose water and edible flowers i am immediately skeptical, but this beer is really solid. It's a saison.  It is really cloudy like an unfiltered wheat,  but has a really strong flavor with an intensely floral finish.  Not in a gross way, like many fruit beers but in a really beery way, if that makes sense.  It still tastes like beer, ya know?

I went to pick up a bottle of Laphroaig but they were out. So I'm taking a punt on one of these Compass Box releases. I'm not a huge fan of blends but I've heard OK things about this company. Anyone tried their stuff out?

Personally I find that stuff almost undrinkable, but I'm not a huge fan of peaty scotch, either.

Never had that particular bottling, but Compass Box is a very well respected blender.  Or vatter or whatever.

The Peat Monster isn't bad, though it seemed a little one-note to me when I tried it.

I hate the thread names that play off of each other. I'm coming here to troll about politics and all the sudden I'm reading about fucking books? No thanks.

Remember when people were stoked about the "new" Schlitz?  And then Old Style got kreusened?  Both beers are still not exactly terrible.

Do you mean "new" like when they put the stabilizers in back in the 70s and everyone stopped drinking it cuz it looked like mucus? That was Schlitz, right?

I tried this pilsner last night that smelled and tasted like weed. I forget what it's called. I'll get back to you. I also tried something called down under? and had a glass of st. bernardis right after and the combo of tastes was like root beer. My friend works at a bar and she gets to have one beer per shift so she just saves up these different beers and gives them to her friends to try when we are hanging out. It's cool.

Naw, they went back to the Schlitz 70's recipe after doing something else during the 80s, 90s, and 00s, evidently.

The bottle says "original 60s recipe" or something like that.

H'm. That's kinda neat. I remember when Rhinegold was re-introduced according to 60s specs, though and it was not great. I dunno that popular tastes back then were any better than they are today, but it's neat enough to try.

I thought they also removed the stabilizers soon after the debacle in the 70s, new Coke style, but their market share was permanently lost.

The resurrected Schlitz isn't bad, really.  As shitty beers go.  My favorite shitty beers are that and Lone Star.

Also got a weird fondness for Amber Bock due to drinking it all the time at the Falcon as an undergrad.

So I had some Bulleit Rye at Fette Sau and damn, that was tasty. It has a bite but a very nice aftertaste. When my Rittenhouse runs out I will be getting a bottle. Or maybe I want to get one now just for sipping neat.

Grocery store was letting Shipyard Export go for $7/sixer. Shipyard doesn't seem to get much distro down here so it's my first time trying one of their brews. Very good for the price, though I wouldn't pay a whole lot more for it.

Oooooh me too. I didn't drink anything for all of May, and last week I stretched a bottle of wine over a few days, but last nights adventure with (not that much) rum has made everything unhappy. Gurgle.

This weekend was about brewing iced tea and pouring whiskey INTO IT.

And bottling that shit up, and freezing said bottles, and then taking them TUBING on the RIVER, where they melted in the sun and turned into delicious tea & whiskey slushees which we alternately guzzled and held between our legs as we floated downstream.

AWESOME WEEKEND GUYS.

Gonna throw a paaaaarty.  Gonna make punch!  Swag.  I'm deciding between a few different recipes.  Might have to make more than one.

(Chicago kids, you should come to party!)

I was pretty proud of my beer + canoeing Saturday, but Davy's superior beverage choices have me beat.
I yield.
