Should I make one appx queen size quilt or two half that size? Just got 4 yds of Nani Iro Pocho and Saa Saa double gauze (two 2-yard cuts). They were an indulgence (although I did find a rather good deal). I ordered a queen-sized piece of wool batting for them. Very torn! I have two 2-yard cuts of shot cotton in very nice coordinating colors for the backing, but gah, so torn. And what should I do for the quilting? Just 6-inch-apart dots to make a duvet thing like so

(where I saw this idea in the first place) or something fancier?

I think you should make a duvet cover, and mail it to me.

I have lost about 3/4 of the buttons that keep mine on.

What size? Is it really just the missing buttons that are the issue? Sewing buttons on is easy. DO you want me to send you some nice buttons?

What does the batting package say about stitch distance?

I believe it will say 8 inches, but I have another quilt I tied at 8 inches and I wished I'd done them closer.

I am currently leaning toward putting the gauze side-by-side for the top and the shot cotton (peach and a sort of pinkish lavender) side-by-side for the back. It will yield a not-quite-queen sized quilt. This leaves the decision about stitching. Very torn!

Hm
Little stitched bits or tying are probably fine, I like machine quilting but I have not machine quilted anything bigger than 45" on a side

The more I think about it, the more I like the little stitches instead of machine quilting, because it won't interfere with the minimalistic fabric

Maybe stitch in a little circle around the dots? Wouldn't have to do all of them, either. Maybe a sparse grid.

That'd work, I think! Try it.. if you hate it, the worst you have to do is pick out stitches and start over.

I know, I'm just super lazy. I suppose I should buy some thread. And a needle. I already have the bucket.

This is how the tie-dyed onesies turned out. My sister, being who she is, is pretty happy.

It was fun! And she didn't inhale toxic baby-gilling chemicals! I think! We'll see!

also that is my brother in the background
the family portrait we took at the baby shower is very funny, as it is two chicks who barely clear five feet, one of them seven and a half months pregnant, surrounding A GIANT OF A MAN.

comparatively speaking.

this has not been a craft-related post; I apologize

Yay tiedye! Good job!

My craft steam has kind of dissipated because I've been SO TIRED since I stopped drinking caffeine. Wah. I managed to drag myself upstairs near the supplies this afternoon, so maybe tonight I'll actually get something done.

Marabou stork by squishythings, on Flickr

phew

I have a habit of using one of those sweater shavers to pick the lint off these things, and this time it broke a bunch of the threads and I didn't notice until after I put the back on. Wah.

I made the tot a little backpack from scraps too small for even tiny clothes. She's been begging for a backpack.

There's an outside pocket that still needs a button:

and an inside pocket for crayons:

and the straps have parachute buckles since she loves playing with the ones on her car seat, stroller, high chair, etc.:

The fabric used has variously appeared as a shirt for her cousin, pants for her, a coat for a friend's kid, and a little jumper/pinafore for her (which I must see if she can still squeeze into).
