I tried to do that with Ellie a couple of weeks ago (I used to do it when I was a teenager), but they wouldn't let children go out with the dogs, even with an adult. So that was the end of that.
Some places have cat rooms where you can just hang out with the cats all day which might be kid safe. We would do that in girl scouts. I volunteered at a wildlife rehab center every summer in high school and it was a really memorable experience. One of the things they would have me do was sit and talk to the bald eagle to socialize it because it was permanently injured. My favorite part was feeding the pelicans and gopher tortoises.

I don't remember. I think I probably gossiped with him about the other birds. Maybe I read aloud from whatever I was reading at the time, most likely something by kurt vonnegut.
