Huntsman!!! Cool.

I was talking with justinh and his Mrs on facebook about them earlier today. They're great (free fly removal and weather forecasting). That's a pretty big one, they don't get much bigger than that, but at least it still has all its legs
:-)

I was halfway to typing "Huntsman spider" into Google, then realized "what the fuck am I trying to do to myself?"

I have done exactly the same thing, only substitute "funnelweb" for huntsman. My phobia is mainly aimed at things that can kill me (or my children), and funnelwebs are truly scary. (Fortunately we don't get them much around here. Sydney, on the other hand...). I took a great spider pic today (that I might be arsed to get onto photobucket in a bit, and thence here) of a wolf spider with an egg sac.

Huntsmans are really quite OK, if a little alarming. They can crawl through impossibly small spaces (yay exoskeletons) and like to hang around in exactly the location shown in B's friend's photo. Lots of food there. So they end up inside pretty frequently.

They eat mosquitoes - therefore, they are my friends.

I see spiders all the time at work, they are great! Sometimes there'll be a black widow hiding out in a well I am sampling but I can't ever get a good picture because they are so hide-y and dark.

I have no clue what kind of spider this is but it was huge and hung out for quite a while.

a badass wolf spider eating sucking the life out of a grass hopper. I saw the catch, it was intense.

the other day at that very same well I saw that wolf spider catch and proceed to eat ANOTHER wolf spider!

I always find it fascinating, if mildly disturbing, to hear Australians talk about spiders.

In fact, my boyfriend mentioned a few months ago that he'd like to go to Australia next November or so because there'd be a total solar eclipse visible somewhere on a tropical beach in Australia. I don't find solar eclipses all that interested, but I figured why the hell not, and said it might be a fun thing to do. Then we were having dinner with two Australian friends of mine, and the conversation turned to some of the spiders that are crawling around in Australia, and I decided that I might just pass up on that solar eclipse after all.

Guys, I've done everything I can for you, here. I labeled the thread accurately and then posted a link rather than image. At this point you have only yourselves to blame. HAPPY HALLOWEEN.

I occasionally find black widows in my mailbox.

I am the only person I know with a special mail-gettin' stick.

Do you yell "git! git!" when you're thrusting your stick into the mailbox? Do your neighbors watch from the windows?
