I have yet to see a sketch but I am likely getting a tattoo of a fox. The lady is getting a phoenix on her ribs.

you know, I keep meaning to get another tattoo. my aesthetic is generally sort of lo-skill and cheesy, but not in an egregious enough manner as to wind up on the protip thread. thus the two things I had in mind were
1.
tarot three of swords
over my heart. I don't care about tarot crap, and wouldn't even know its meaning if I hadn't just googled it, but I do, in fact, have a literal hole in my heart (tricuspid valve, etc.), so I kind of dig the resonance there.
2. απειρον on my back. I couldn't give a rat's ass about philosophy today, but it was what I lived for as an undergrad, and I was fascinated enough by the presocratics that I attempted--with great futility--to teach myself greek. but as a tribute to that wacky old Anaximander, I think this would be pretty cool.
I guess the general disposition toward life that both of these reflect is that some things are important to me, within a broader sense of existence itself as fairly ridiculous.

I've been dying for a new tattoo recently. But none of my concepts are readymades; they all would require an original design. And I've never worked with anybody who I could trust to come up with something that fits comfortably in the established aesthetic that I've got going on. I'm not sure how to break out of this rut.

i think i want to get something like this on my bicep (without the words and red detailing) and it's not because it's mount eerie artwork, but rather i have been looking for a good mount design for a while and this is the best i have seen. i think it would like awesome with a black frame.

And make a habit of crooning "Row row row your boat, gently down the stream" repeatedly during foreplay.

I would get something on my bicep if I . . . had a bicep. two years without meaningful exercise beyond lots of walking has left me kind of enfeebled.

I've found that "mic checking" into my tattoo kind of unnerves tMO, which is the best.

That was one of the reasons you got it, wasn't it? Excellent!

The cool thing was that he had originally thought it was going to be on my other arm, where he has only a few cm of space and when he saw it was on the arm with the Mondrian he sketched out, in about an hour, a version that was an extension of the Mondrian tattoo with very straight, geometric lines. I was really pumped at his ability to take an existing work and incorporate his own style with that of another artist's. We talked about doing some color in it, but by the end of a 4 hour session, with his 2 year old visiting him at the shop (past the kiddo's bedtime,) and with my arm fairly sore, we put off the color for another time and another visit. I'm thinking about using some of the boxes above the fox's head as frames for more naturalistic pieces that are in his traditional style (maybe a cricket and a frog?)
He's also a really, really nice guy and a genuine pleasure to be around. The number of times he had to put down his tattoo gun because we were both laughing at jokes was probably in the dozens.

The elbow was fine if weird. The appositional side (the hinge/the ditch) hurt like a motherfucker.
