Wubfur, that Pollard album is the last release of his (both GBV and in teh Fading Captain series) that I still spin regularly. What pop gems! I was hoping that the next Pollard/Gillard effort (the Lifeguards) would touch me as well, but I just felt groped.

$1 used
$5 used

also, with borders store credit from this returned gift:

im pretty hyped about the eels live album, supposedly its hard to find or something. its recorded on the tour of one of the 2 albums i like by them and features lots of songs from both those albums (daisies of the galaxy and electroshock blues, btw) and some nice orchestra action and whatever.

i've been meaning to buy unwound's repetition for years, literally. should i stop whining and do it already?

in other news, i sold the following:

~misfits - coffin box (i'm not a big enough fan to justify keeping it around...$49.19)
~dave brubeck - for all time [box] (this one hurt a little bit, but honestly, everything else he did pales in comparison to time out...$29.99)
~green on red - gas food lodging (with all the forgotten bands worth remembering, it seems unfair that people still talk about green on red...$6.99)
~mastodon - lifesblood (i have the two LPs, that's enough...$5.29)
~ozma - spending time on the borderline (this is a fun album, but expendable...$6.19)

to buy this, which i just did (barnes & noble had it $20 cheaper than anyone else):

PAUL SIMON studio recordings 1972 - 2000

Mmmm!

man you traded way down

edit: sorry that was prickish, but i would take misfits and that mastodon ep over everything paul simons ever done (besides graceland which is a favorite from way back, but theres a single disc reissue of that which would require selling much less stuff).

i listened to that misfits set pretty intensely for the first month or so i had it, and then never again. when i would pull it off the shelf, it was to hear a few songs in particular. turns out, all these songs are on the first collection. the only reason i kept coffin box around was because it was shaped like a coffin. (i guess i forgot to mention up there that i'm also going to buy the aforementioned misfits comp and a single copy of brubeck's time out...so that makes it 2 cds and a box, and not just a box. and it means i'm not abandoning the misfits.)

as for the mastodon thing, eh, i wasn't impressed with the ep. i love the two albums, but the ep did nothing for me, and i bought it at a clearance sale for a buck-fifty, so it was no big loss.

and i grew up with a misconception of paul simon. what a pansy, right? my uncool parents love paul simon. but then i started finding some of his "better" albums on vinyl and i loved them. especially graceland and the self-titled debut. i'm really excited about getting all of it in one place, and if it turns out i don't like but a few of the albums, then i'll sell the box back--likely for more than i bought it for in the first place since barnes & noble had such an awesome sale on it--and buy the albums i want individually, and then i'll have another $50 or $60 to spend on something else. since it was so cheap, i'll probably also get a swell maps album, and maybe that oceans 12 soundtrack that sounds so enjoyable.

generally though, this is what i do. i rarely hold onto stuff i don't really love. there's always something i want a little more.

the best thing about the misfits box is disc three, with spook city usa and a couple of other unreleased/rare tracks and weird versions of songs (and the BEST version of vampira, among others).  but alas, i sold mine a couple of years ago when i was strapped for cash.

I had the exact same problem, though I think it was made worse by the fact that "Graceland" was in my mom's housecleaning music rotation, along with "The Harder They Come" soundtrack and I think "Magical Mystery Tour". The association of certain records with laundry and vacuuming takes years to eradicate, but fortunately, I've recovered. If I ever have kids, I'll make them do their chores in stone dead silence.

Two days ago, I finally got around to buying this:

I think You Turn Me On is Beat Happening's best, by far. Which is not saying anything bad about their other albums at all.

You can get it from Parasol.com for $49. But I guess more money goes to the artist when you order direct. The little book that comes with the boxset is great - especially the journals from when they first when to Japan before they released their first single.

also, by the way - my favorite BH album is the s/t (followed by Black Candy, and You Turn Me On - but there all good).

Is there any speacial reason for tommorow...cause there's one or two I don't have.

And John, do you mean surpass Morbid in their present state?

I only have Kings of All Kings, which is super dope.  I've seen them play twice though.  First time, I was super impressed at their isane stage presence and, what seemed at the time, awkward songs.  The second time I saw them, they had severe tech difficulties.  The guitar and bass amps would cut out, but they wouldn't notice.  So they were strumming away and all you could hear was the growls and drums.  I felt bad for them, but it was sooooo funny.  Then they went to try and fix them, which left Roddy all alone to just show off.  When they came back they said "WE ARE HAVING SOME TECHNICAL DIFFICULITES BUT NOTHING CAN FUCKING STOP US RAWWWWWWRRRRRR!"   at which point they started another song with no guitars.

Then this past July there was a drumming convention being held at the next town over, Woonsocket.  (famous for it's increadibly lame Autumfest Cholumbus Weekend spectacular) It's considered a city, but that's by Rhode Island standards.  But the spectacular thing was, Cryptopsy was supposed to play there.  I was blowing my head off that Cryptopsy were going to play this highschool.  It's 5 minutes away from my house.  I had my cub scout pinewood dirby race on the same stage Cryptopsy was going to rule.  I had to sit in he audience for my sisters 4 hour long dance holiday shows in the same seats I was about to see Lord Worm play his first American show ever.  Then effin customs wouldn't let them into the states, because they didn't have the working papers...even though it was a CHARITY SHOW!!  Omg, I'm super pissed right now just thinking about it still.  Anyways, it all relates back to Hate Eternal because he was there two by himself.  I got too see one of the coolest death metal drummers solo to new H.E. tracks, have play along with Bernard Purdie, the most recorded drummer ever, and talk to him after about Hate Eternal, druming and how drunken awsome the show was with the tech difficulties was.

It was funny at one point in the day, they were listing off raffel tickets.  And at one point the M.C. announced "Six Hundred Sixty Six"  and Derek came out from behind the concert and mouthed out "YESSS!" with both fists in the air.

if morbid angel remembered how to put together an album without all the bullshit on it (2 filler keyboard tracks in a row? the drum solo track on the album proper instead of stuck on the bonus disc? god thinking about heretic chaps my balls) and got david vincent back on vox i think they could still come back and blow away pretty much any band. the actual songs on heretic are pretty awesome, theyre just bogged down by so much shit. as it stands though i think hate eternal is right there with them for now. if MA drops some more shit like Heretic i think hate eternal could easily surpass them in their current state. i dont see hate eternal eclipsing their legacy/back catalog any time soon though. i would put up Altars, Blessed, and Covenant against pretty much any 3 album stretch by any band you care to name.

i got kinda drunk earlier watching football (god damn panthers! D: well at least the saints didnt make the playoffs either so... fuck them anyway... um wait getting off track here) and then proceeded to rock the fuck out to altars and covenant, is what prompted it. but really do you need a reason to pick up more Morbid Angel? which dont you have? ive got everything except the live one and that laibach remix ep thing, i think. oh and love the love of lava bonus ep. if youre missing anything besides Heretic i say run and get it, because theyre all totally ripping. and even Heretic is worth owning, but you dont have to run on that one. probably pick it up used at some point.

question to the populace at large: is the live one worth tracking down?

also one more morbid angel point. as much as i love blessed are the sick, is it just me or is the prduction horrible? and not in a good shitty metal way, but in a totally sterilized way. everything seems so lifeless on it, the drums just sorta thump away in the background and the limp totally isolated guitars shred away off in some hospital room somewhere down the street. it just kinda irks me. its a good thing the song writing is so fuckin amazing to make up for it. but listening to the blackened noise blur of Altars and then the dirty hateful mess of Covenant it just kinda makes pine for what might have been.

that beat happening box set is THE reason i became obsessed with box sets last year. when it came out, i fell in love with it sitting there on the record store shelf. despite never hearing a beat happening song in my life, i just couldn't take my eyes off of it. i mean, i knew enough about them and calvin johnson to know i'd really dig it, but i had nothing sonic to go on. finally i caved, traded in a bunch of stuff, and bought it. i listened to nothing else for a month. so glad i got it.
