Also, recently, I've seen the second season of Twin Peaks, followed by Fire Walk With Me. I'd seen the first season in the past. Truly, this is the best television show ever, with some things on HBO comparing, but coming up short.

I haven't seen The Sopranos, actually, so I am mostly just being contrarian and talking out my ass simultaneously. But elpollodiablo, have you seen Twin Peaks? Like, all of it? Because that show's pretty sweet.

The only good thing I can think to say of David Lynch is that he'll be dead, someday. Sorry.

I haven't seen the whole run of Twin Peaks, though. I str8 hated Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive, though... Is there any chance I'd like the series? Dune was okay.

nicholson, you need also to see "the wire" before you make claims about twin peaks beating out all hbo shows.

I'm watching The Wire now, more than halfway through the first season, and I'm still saying not as good as Twin Peaks. It is good though.

Yeah, Lynch is the kind of director who was BETTER on TV than in film, because in his case, having suit-types reign in his excesses is actually helpful rather than compromising.

I like Blue Velvet, and I'm lukewarm to dislike on LH and MD, but I LOVE First Season Twin Peaks, so there might be hope for you, devilchicken.

HBO shit is straight overrated with every letter capitalized, bolded, block-lettered, and followed by ten thousand exclaimation points.  OMG THEY'RE SWEARING ON TV!! (Though I haven't seen the Wire, and I may like that)

I have the biggest thing EVAR for Tony Soprano. I cannot for the life of me figure out why without caving into the notion that bitches love power and money. But I would SO, um, hit that.

I watched A Series Of Unfortunate Events recently and I was so scared that Jim Carrey was going to fuck it up like he did The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, but I loved it. I also watched Le Divorce, which is possibly the biggest waste of my time that I have encountered in a while.

I myself am yet to recover from the utter greatness of Kung Fu Hustle. I'm almost convinced that it's a perfect Kung Fu movie, able to compete with the likes of Enter the Dragon. And those of you bashing on Lynch must not have seen either Eraserhead or Elephant Man. Those two flicks are just plain awesome.

Last movie I watched was Alphaville, which is just pure concentrated genius.

Well to be fair, Jon Stewart seems like a pleasant, not so bad lookin feller. Tony Soprano on the other hand is a fat womanizing prick who's likely to beat you after entagling you in body hair.

Little man, are you mocking me?
I am duly aware of the fact that a larger minority than you would think of  ladeez are crushing on the man to the point where the notion was parodied/discussed on Saturday Night Live. I'm just saying, I wish I could come up with an actual reason for MY crush beyond the one that everyone else has and probably has some gross Freudian daddy figure/masochism or something rationale behind it. Not a beautiful or unique snowflake, etc. etc.

I'm trying real hard to understand how anyone, anyone, could possibly feel that way. I know that most people do, but its totally mindboggling to me. Lost Highway is easily my favorite film I've ever seen. I guess that I can sort of agree that MD would have been a better HBO series like they had originally planned, but it didn't work out that way. I still really really love it though.

Well, I feel like both MD and LH are excellent at creating an overall creepy/disturbing/gross mood, but pretty much everything in them falls apart under closer inspection, unlike Blue Velvet or Twin Peaks (S1, at least), which both just seem better thought-out.  That said, Robert Blake in Lost Highway is easily one of the creepiest performances in film, like, ever.

Does this mean Twin Peaks S2 is finally out on DVD?  I've only seen Season 1.  I hear 2 is problematic.  If it is, it would fit my overall theory, with Lynch getting more leeway from the networks after S1 was a "hit."

Me neither. Let me let you in on a little secret. I've never seen anything at all related to Twin Peaks, despite that I keep on top of release dates and things. I feel like I haven't gone deep enough into what I have seen to move on to something that huge yet.

A 'uge Lynch fan like you might be disappointed at how much of a straight mystery/noir it is.  The weirdness is still there, don't get me wrong, but it's almost just a variation on the "quirky detective," ie the sort of thing I'll always watch and love.  Kyle MacLachlan destroys in that series, he's one of Lynch's few creations who is actually a "character" and not just a dead-eyed head trip.

That's my fear. It's stupid, but I can't move away from my perfect baby. My lost highway. I feel like for me it's his penultimate statement as an artist and I respect and love it so much that I can't move beyond it. I do that often, but it works for me. It has to.

I went and saw 'kung fu hustle' it was very entertaining and we had about half an hour to play fight in the empty lobby after it was over, which made it more fun.
