This may well be my new favorite website:
http://livingbetweenwednesdays.blogspot.com
with the caveat that she talks a lot about Superman & I find Superman to be the least interesting of comic book superheroes. BUT STILL:

Quote

Shut up, Eddie. I'm not reading Supergirl for the same reason I don't read the new Flash comics, Batman Confidential, or the Martian Manhunter series: they suck ass. I don't care that this comic is MADE for ladies so therefore I SHOULD like it. I don't. It doesn't interest me and I am busy spending money on and reading the comics that you actually bother to put good writers and artists on. Because, and maybe I shouldn't speak for all women here because I don't know, I think that we appreciate...quality. You know, good stories, good art, good characters, and costumes that don't make you throw up in your mouth.

You know what I would like? I would like you to invite the "ladies" to come out and give The Brave and the Bold a shot. Because that's what I'm really looking forward to. Or The Spirit. Or Jonah Hex. Or The Justice Society. You know. Good comics.

Maybe you could just slap some pink covers on them so girls can understand them. Or make them out of chocolate. It doesn't really matter because we just use them to blow our noses on when watching The Notebook anyway.

You horrible douchebag.

Truly,
Rachelle

yeah, that is a good blog.  i am glad others were as offended as i was at the "why does no one love our slutty supergirl?" paragraph at the end of last week's DC titles.

thanks for that link, sarah. i think i will be reading that blog regularly.

also, where supergirl is concerned, rachelle is correct. the comic sucks. i too was interested when it started, and i actually thought it was decent during jeph loeb's run--you know, for five issues. but even i found myself thinking "why is every female superhero in this comic running around wearing nothing?" between supergirl's stomach, power girl's boobs, and both of their exposed crotches, i found myself unable to concentrate on the storyline a lot of times, because i kept thinking "my god, how can they stand to go out in public like that, let alone fight crime and crazy aliens?" then towards the end of loeb's run, the release schedule went to shit and never really recovered, they brought greg rucka in for exactly one issue, which launched a multi-part storyline that MADE NO SENSE, and probably was even more fucked by the end because another writer had to come in and write the last two issues of the three-issue arc rucka had started. to top it off, that arc, in addition to making no sense, had nothing to do with the five-issue arc jeph loeb had written for the beginning of the series. and then issue 9 brought in yet another creative team who wanted to do something completely different YET AGAIN, which would have maybe been ok if it had happened in issue 6 and the rucka/scab arc had been skipped, but as it was came out of nowhere. that could have been forgiven if it was good, but it SO wasn't. i haven't picked up an issue of supergirl since issue 9. i'm done with that title.

and for the record, the new flash comic totally blows, she's right about that too.

Been thinkin' about picking up comics, after a hiatus of at least 6 or 7 years. What's happenin' in the comic-book world? What titles have the fire?

And what's Peter David writing now? He was always my favorite writer for sure, esp back in the day when he was doing Amazing Spiderman and Incredible Hulk.

peter david's all right, i guess. never really blew me away though. i think he's doing "friendly neighborhood spider-man" right now.

what's really going on right now is marvel's civil war storyline. i'm really digging it.

other than that, daredevil is really awesome right now, and i'm totally hanging on every word brian k. vaughan (y the last man, ex machina, runaways) writes. oh, and dmz is pretty great too.
