I love lists. and being happy.

1. 4 out of the 4 friends I was supposed to spend time with today had to cancel. BUT one of them did so by putting some flowers with a note "I had to work!" in front of my door very very early this morning.

2. the little girl down the street has learned my name, and now when I walk past she shouts to me and tells me stories about her day.

3. I ate brownies for breakfast.

4. I intend to start driving again today! for the first time since my little accident last week.

5. all three of my cats have spent the past hour sitting in the bathtub for no apparent reason.

6. my friend in Iraq left a message for me that I could barely understand. he was shouting something about love and singing under pressure with a few of his marines. So I know everything is all right.

okay. your turn.

1. The Jam. The Jam is making me very happy.
2. I am going to visit my family this weekend, and lately the fact that I'm getting along with them so much better than when I was 19 and like OMG STOP TALKING I HAVE MY OWN LIFE NOW has been making me feel pretty okay.
3. Wig shopping.
4. Sweater weather, and my new fall jacket that I found for SIX DOLLARS.
5. Rereading this book, although not so much with the this movie.
6. I was sitting outside of a Walgreens Friday night and someone who I only sort of know came up to me and told me that he liked a piece of writing that I have published on the internets, and that was the first time that's ever happened.
7. Soy milk.

The Decemberists concert that I don't have to pay for tonight.

The fantaztik Mexican I'll be eating before the concert

The otherworldly hashish that I'll be smoking before the concert and... uh.... now.

Oh what's making me happy.

1) Writing frantic, inarticulate letters to people I love and people I barely know.

2) Painting my sisters room ice white so it looks like a sci fi holding cell.

3) Knowing that if I finish my three editing jobs by the end of the month I probably won't need to do anymore paid work until January (in theory).

4) Gillian Welch- Not so much HAPPY as happy in the presence of a sad beauty

I was supposed to get a fucking lap dance yesterday or last night or the night before last or SOMETHING but I didn't. But it was from a dude anyway.

wow, those little pigs are adorable.

things making me happy:

the "loud, fast and out of control" box set on rhino, and the fact that i figured out that this would be a perfect christmas gift for my dad. now to find a cheap copy somewhere...

the armor for sleep album blake got me to check out

bob dylan's "chronicles vol. 1" and all of his pre-electric albums

the fact that i really have been updating my music blog almost every day since i made that resolution

my plan to turn three short stories written between 1999 and 2003 into a book proposal (once i rewrite them all)

the fact that i'm playing at least two shows with two different bands in november

01  Mike Doughty tomorrow night, playing at a venue 10 minutes from my apartment.

02  Still.

03  My car has new brakes, which means I don't have to be as blisteringly scared of getting into accidents as I have been for the past, oh, two months.

04  No matter how many times I listen to it, Spelled in Bones by Fruit Bats maintains its irresistible charm.  And makes me feel like it's summer, which it most certainly is not.

05  I am, eventually, at some point in the future, going to sleep.  When?  I don't know.  But it will happen, and just knowing that is good enough for me.

Dude, Leigh is one of my best friends in the whole universe!  She lives in Chicago, though, not with Carol in DC.  But yes, the world *is* tiny.  Whenever I meet someone, it doesn't take very long to realise they already know a bunch of people I know, so I already almost knew them.

Nope, she never lived there; she lived in Arlington, but not at Diver City House.  She's been in Chicago for just over 2 years now.

HAPPY THINGS (in random order):

1) put a "for sale" sign on my jeep yesterday, and already someone has walked up, given it the once over, called me on the phone, taken a look inside, and is going to contact her bank. i mean, she may not actually buy it, but at least it tells me there's sufficient interest. $6700 would be music to my ears right about now.

2) my new band's name: the moon babies

3) just started watching the first season of firefly on dvd, and i'm thinking it will satisfy the jonesing i had for cheesy sci-fi.

4) looking forward to reading some ursula k. leguin (borrowed some stuff from the library)

5) got two cds coming in the mail tomorrow: dungen and blood on the wall

6) my (own) office and desk at work

7) RAIN (i needed some grey in my life)

8) our zygote (who has been dubbed "nugget", and is currently working on developing a spinal cord)

9) and my new sneaks:
